18: Days Before You Came

Taken from the album Black Market Music http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDFLOORX13.JPG

'Days Before You Came' is an energetically charged, fast-paced number which is very similar to fan favourite 'Special K'. Short and sweet, and wouldn't have made a bad single either I reckon.

Favourite line from song: "Days before you came, counting breaths inside me, even crack cocaine couldn't start to hide me"

As there is no official video for this track, here is a live performance:

17: Special Needs

This is quite a laid-back number from Placebo, very emotinally reflective. I prefer the album version again, because it doesn't feel as 'chopped down' as the single version, and has that raw and gritty guitar riff in the breakdown.

My favourite line from song:

"Remember me when you clinch your movie deal, and think of me stuck in my chair that has four wheels"

I LOVE the video of Special Needs! It's so beautiful

16: Scared Of Girls

Taken from the album Without You I'm Nothing http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDFLOOR8.JPG

This is one of my favourite tracks from the flawless Without You I'm Nothing album, very fast and furious and very catchy. Excellent guitar work, and Brian even manages to make a few dodgy lyrics here and there sound passable!

Favourite line from song: "Your younger sister had a blister where I kissed her on her thigh"

As this track doesn't have an official video, here is a live performance:

This was the lead single from Placebo's third album Black Market Music, and marks the beginning of when their success dwindled. :( Placebo describe this as an "assault on the ears" and I agree, the bass in this is unbelievable, and Brian's vocals are incredible!

This is my second favourite track from recent album Meds. Question is, which is my favourite and how high will it be? I love the electronic influences on this track, it is also recognisable from the "it's in the water baby..." refrain at the start of each verse.

Favourite line from song: "Bite the hand that feeds, tap the vein that bleeds"

This is an absolutely beautiful and amazing track. The lyrics are brutally honest about his feelings and express sexuality in a perfect way. A very moving track.

Favourite line in song: "Never thought I'd get any higher, never thought you'd fuck with my brain"

12: Song To Say Goodbye

Taken from the album Meds http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDFLOOR26.JPG

So here it is, the highest track in the countdown from recent album Meds. Every country but the UK got this as the first single, while we got 'Because I Want You'. I think they should have released this, IMO it is hundreds of times better and could have put them back on the map and got them back into the top 10. But such is life. This track is very powerful, both lyrically and musically, and the video is very moving.

Favourite line from song: "You are one of god's mistakes, you crying tragic waste of skin"

11: Sleeping With Ghosts

Taken from the album Sleeping With Ghosts http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDFLOOR17.JPG

Just before we start the top 10, just missing out is the title track from the Sleeping With Ghosts album. This ballad shows Placebo getting political, and "damning the government for their killing and lies". Also worth checking out is a slightly different, more alternative version of this called 'Soulmates', which can be found on the 'This Picture' single, and you can see a live performance of below.

Favourite line from song: "What good's religion, when it's eachother we despise"

10: I Know

Taken from the album Placebo http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDFLOORY2.JPG

Ah, my favourite non-single from the magical debut album. Mesmerising guitar riffs and frankly ingenious lyrics, it almost sounds like a confessional song with the way every line in the song starts with "I know...". Love it!

Favourite line in song: "I know, you want the sin without the sinner"

As this track doesn't have an official video, here is a completely random one someone has made on YouTube:

'Every You Every Me' is in some respects Placebo's most well known track, it was featured in a smash hit movie (Cruel Intentions), is a track that immediately springs to mind whenever people talk about Placebo, and seems that many people have became fans of Placebo because of this track. It's a classic single, I love it and it is #9 on my countdown.

Favourite line from song: "Like the naked leads the blind, I know I'm selfish, I'm unkind"

This was the first single Placebo ever released, roughly a year before they broke through properly. It is also the opening track of their debut album, I love the drumming and guitaring in this track, it's perfect. It also has some EXCELLENT lyrics to it. The video isn't great quality, but it's an amazing track.

Favourite line in song: "Hard to breathe I try and try, I'll get asphyxiated"

This was the single which truly broke Placebo through. Almost 10 years ago now, this single crashed into the UK top 5, and has remained a solid gold classic ever since. I prefer the album version of this, the guitars are crunchier and add a great effect to the track. With brash lyrics about homosexual encounters and a classic sing-a-long chorus, this track is undoubtedly a classic anthem.

Favourite line in song: "Eyeholes in a paper bag, greatest lay I ever had"

This is a bit of an underrated track. It was a top 5 single, yet rarely ever seems to be mentioned or acknowledged, even by Placebo fans. This is another classic tune for me, pure and absolute brilliance. Watch all of the band members get thrown into a pool of sharks in the video!

Favourite line in song: "Mental masturbation"

Into the top 5 we go, and we kick off with the lead single from Placebo's fourth album Sleeping With Ghosts back in March 2003, and what a stormer it is. Spiky and punky guitar licks throughout, strong vocals and simple yet genius guitar chords throughout the chorus. This is a total classic, and in the video you can see Brian Molko looking rather sexy and performing with the others on a satellite dish. Oooooh!

No, not the breakfast cereal. This was the third single from Black Market Music in 2001, unfortunately it wasn't chart eligible (I'm sure this would have given them another top 10), but it has remained a classic Placebo track to this day. It's very powerful and explosive, the lyrics are very dramatic and it is damn amazing.

Favourite line from song: "I'll describe the way I feel, weeping wounds that never heal"
