T'm gradually catching up on myself! Only one week behind now. A new #1 again this week as Calvin and Sam ascend to the top spot giving Harris his annual #1 for the fourth year total and running. Previously Calvin has topped my personals in 2015 (Pray to God), 2016 (This is What you Came For) and last year, 2017 (Slide). If I'd started charts before mid 2013, Sweet Nothing with Florence, Bounce with Kelis and the classic I'm Not Alone may all have contended too, I recall all three picked up massive plays from me at their times of release. It's Sam Smith's second as well - his previous is an odd one, album track Restart briefly topped for one fluke week wayback in 2014. Prior to this he only had one other entry on my personals, solo or featured - Drowing Shadows, which for one week landed at the heights of #40. Following this I'll be revisiting his latest album though to see if there's any hidden gems. It's a strong chart debut for Jessie Reyez too who's been on my radar a few years but hasn't landed anything in my top 40 yet. Not a bad start for one of the tiniest feature credits on a song I can recall since Gwen Stefani on Pharrell's Can I Have It Like That back in 05.

 

Lana takes silver this week with Get Free, on the cusp (at the time) of her new singles Venice Bitch and Mariners Apartment Complex releasing. The latter is sure to be a threat for the top spot in coming weeks. Lana remains my overall leading artist in terms of personals with six #1s since I started charting and an additional likely five from before I kept a record. Get Free becomes the fourth-and-third highest peaking track from the LFL era, tying with Groupie Love for its #2 peak and just behind the two #1s she picked up this round. Well deserved for one of the best tracks on the record. Rises just behind her this week come from my latest BJSC entrant Vava, and not-so-coincidentally Krewella, the group thanks to whose collab track I discovered Vava. Fall Out Boy's Champion remix also re-peaks in its tenth week while JLo, Ari, Nao and Troye move into the top ten. Troye's Lucky Strike is this week's highest new entry.

 

Quite a few new entries this week come from among others, G-Eazy, Smallpools, Great Good Fine OK, Anna of the North, Matoma, Prides and LP.
