On This Day In HistoryJustin Bieber was banned from performing in China, according to Beijing's Culture Bureau. In a statement, the ministry said it was not appropriate to allow in entertainers who have engaged in "bad behaviour." The pop star, who was allowed to tour China in 2013, joined a long list of musicians who have found themselves similarly blacklisted. Most though, like the British band Oasis and the US group Maroon 5, because of perceived political statements, rather than on the grounds of bad behaviour.Other ResourcesOfficial Now Music Website

Andrew's ReviewNow That’s What I Call Music! 97 or Now 97 was released in the Summer of 2017 and featured 45 tracks with 6 UK #1 singles. It contained hits from early 2017 and songs to mark the start of the Summer. It became the first volume in the series to feature music from Luis Fonsi, DJ Khaled, Liam Payne (as a solo artist), Harry Styles (as a solo artist), Camila Cabello (as a solo artist), J Hus, RAYE (as a lead artist) and HAIM (as a lead artist).

Due to Ed Sheeran being included on the previous volume, Now 96, it was a big omission to still not see Shape Of You get included despite its mammoth success. Drake was also overlooked along with omissions from Charlie Puth, Captain SKA, Imagine Dragons, Major Lazer, ZAYN and others.

So far this is the only volume in the series to feature Luis Fonsi, French Montana (as a lead artist), Maggie Lindemann, Kendrick Lamar and Future.

Artwork Rating: 7/10 Very Good

The setting of an island is always a good idea for a Summer themed volume, and the sunny palm trees, coupled with overhead planes and water boats made it the perfect holiday themed cover. It lacks something of a unique quality though, but it is still a very good design and very vibrant.

Disc 1 Favourite: Clean Bandit feat. Zara Larsson – Symphony

Probably the best song from Clean Bandit’s back catalogue, it was the last really good song released from them and went on to become Zara Larsson’s biggest hut to date.

Disc 2 Favourite: Sigala & Ella Eyre – Came Here For Love

Most of the second disc in this volume hasn’t aged too well in time, and there’s not a lot I choose to come back to these days, but I’ve chosen another solid hit from Sigala to be the standout from this disc.

Disc 3 Tracklist:

(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. Ed Sheeran – Shape Of You 3:53 {1}

2. Drake – Passionfruit 4:58 {3}

3. Major Lazer, Travis Scott & Camila Cabello feat. Quavo – Know No Better 3:45 {15}

4. Calvin Harris feat. Young Thug, Pharrell Williams & Ariana Grande – Heatstroke 3:49 {25}

5. KYLE feat. Lil Yachty – iSpy 3:47 {33}

6. Childish Gambino – Redbone 5:26 {51}

7. Lana Del Rey feat. The Weeknd – Lust For Life 4:24 {38}

8. Kesha – Praying 3:50 {30}

9. Imagine Dragons – Thunder 3:07 {20}

10. Paramore – Hard Times 3:02 {34}

11. Stargate feat. P!nk & Sia – Waterfall 3:20 {47}

12. Fall Out Boy – Young And Menace 3:43 {67}

13. George Ezra – Don’t Matter Now 2:56 {66}

14. Charlie Puth – Attention 3:28 {9}

15. 5 After Midnight – Up In Here 3:21 {51}

16. The Vamps feat. Martin Jensen – Middle Of The Night 2:54 {44}

17. John Gibbons – P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) 3:15 {48}

18. INDIIA feat. Whitney Phillips – Out Of Love 3:26 {60}

19. Wizkid feat. Drake – Come Closer 3:31 {58}

20. Kid Ink feat. Ty Dolla $ign – F With U 2:59 {52}

21. Zayn feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR – Still Got Time 3:08 {24}

22. G-Eazy & Kehlani – Good Life 3:45 {53}

----------

Total time: 1:19:47

Overall Rating: 5/10 Poor

Perhaps I’m being too critical given what was available to choose from during this time period, but definitely having the most talked about song of the moment by Ed Sheeran excluded for a second time (following its eligibility for Now 96) meant that this volume just lacked that spark, and there aren’t too many fond memories of this era for me, however, it is a better score given than the last volume.

2. Disciples - On My Mind

3. Calvin Harris feat. Pharrell and Katy Perry - Feels

4. Rudimental feat. James Arthur - Sun Comes Up

5. Clean Bandit feat. Zara Larrson - Symphony

Not a great album in my opinion. Disappointing after a string of fantastic summer editions. Disc 1 far ahead of Disc 2. Disc 2 is only good as far as track 8, then the rest is filler.
