Andrew's ReviewNow That’s What I Call Music! 98 aka Now 98 completed the three releases from 2017 when it was released in time for the many Christmas purchases to be made. It contained 46 tracks with 4 UK #1’s. This volume would prove to be the first in the series to include music from Post Malone, Louis Tomlinson (as a lead artist), Khalid, Marshmello, James Hype, Mabel, CamelPhat, Cardi B and Liam Gallagher (as a solo artist).

The most notable omission for this volume perhaps was DJ Khaled, whose #1 hit Wild Thoughts followed up I’m The One (which featured prominently on the last volume) but it was not licensed to be included on this volume. There were also omissions from Enrique Iglesias, Taylor Swift, Niall Horan, Drake, Linkin Park, Kelly Clarkson along with others.

At the time of this writing, there have been no other appearances in the series for J Balvin (as a lead artist), Stefflon Don (as a lead artist), ALMA, Yungen, Axwell Λ Ingrosso, Lil Uzi Vert, Big Shaq, Chris & Kem and Logic.

Artwork Rating: 8/10 Extremely Good

HD graphics looking great on this cover with a winter theme of ski slopes and alpines. The sun is beaming down on the white ice with various skiing accessories surrounding the logo with a couple of cable cars overhead in the background. It’s very bright and simple and it definitely stands out.

Disc 1 Favourite: Dua Lipa – New Rules

Definitely my favourite song of Dua’s first era, this #1 single really cemented her as a pop force to be reckoned with. It came toward the end of her era, but it definitely built anticipation for what music Dua might release in the future.

Disc 2 Favourite: CamelPhat & Elderbrook – Cola

The song that introduced me to CamelPhat, a dance outfit that have certainly delivered in recent years. This song was perhaps a surprise hit at the time, but it still sounds great to hear and it’s the best thing that Elderbrook has put his name to so far.

Disc 3 Tracklist:

(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. DJ Khaled feat. Rihanna & Bryson Tiller – Wild Thoughts 3:24 {1}

2. Enrique Iglesias feat. Sean Paul & Matt Terry – Súbeme La Radio (Remix) 3:27 {10}

3. Drake – Signs 3:54 {14}

4. Post Malone – I Fall Apart 3:43 {19}

5. Taylor Swift – Look What You Made Me Do 3:31 {1}

6. Kelly Clarkson – Piece By Piece 4:17 {27}

7. Coldplay & Big Sean – Miracles (Someone Special) 4:36 {54}

8. Arcade Fire – Everything Now 5:03 {50}

9. Macklemore feat. Skylar Grey – Glorious 3:40 {23}

10. Lil Pump – Gucci Gang 2:04 {27}

11. Krept & Konan feat. Stormzy – Ask Flipz 3:52 {30}

12. N.E.R.D & Rihanna – Lemon 3:39 {31}

13. Jorja Smith & Preditah – On My Mind 3:01 {54}

14. J Hus – Spirit 3:34 {36}

15. Lotto Boyzz – No Don 3:52 {45}

16. Selena Gomez feat. Gucci Mane – Fetish 3:06 {33}

17. Anne-Marie – Heavy 2:52 {37}

18. Meghan McKenna – High Heeled Shoes 3:27 {43}

19. Niall Horan – Too Much To Ask 3:43 {24}

20. Kygo feat. Justin Jesso – Stargazing 3:56 {44}

21. Avicii feat. Sandro Cavazza – Without You 3:01 {32}

22. Linkin Park – In The End 3:36 {14}

----------

Total time: 1:19:18

Overall Rating: 7/10 Good

Certainly a good volume of the majority of hits of this era. There’s a good representation of various genres which is always good to see, and there isn’t too much filler. There aren’t too many complaints over the omissions either, nothing too glaring or unexpected. Just a single song that did not chart in the UK Top 75 so it’s clear that a good selection was made from what was available at the time. Not the most memorable volume in terms of the era, but a pretty decent volume though.
