I know it's a little bit early but Mariah Carey is already top 100 on Spotify so let's have some predictions. Remember, these are predictions for the post-Christmas chart (i.e. the chart that gets announced on 28th December), as this will include Christmas Day streams (which falls on a Tuesday this year) and so the effect for Christmas songs will be the biggest on this week. For the purposes of counting, any song that gets a seasonal boost from Christmas will count as a Christmas song (including songs like 'Stay Another Day' which aren't explicitly Christmas related).

 

Also, this year the vast majority Christmas songs are subject to ACR for the entirety of their run, due to new rules excluding songs older than 3 years from getting a reset, but streaming is also bigger than ever before so the Christmas chart regulars should have no problem charting despite their ACR status.

 

My personal prediction is despite the new rules we should get just over 15 in the top 40 (16-20 bracket), as 5 days of Christmas and build-up will be counted and streaming figures should be very high, we won't get quite as many as last year but most of the songs that made it in should be able to do so again (especially as a lot of them get good download sales too). About the same as last year for top 100 too, maybe a few more but still in the 41-50 bracket.

 

Also I expect Ariana Grande to reach a new peak with 'Santa Tell Me' as she's had a very good year in the chart.

Completely agree. There’s no need for half of the top 40 to be filled with Christmas songs EVERY year.

Why the charts are "supposed" to represent what popular if 1 month or 2 a year thats christmas music then so be it you cany exclude something just because you dont like it. Heck if that was the case Drake should be excluded from the charts because i dont like his music

Last year yes but with streaming Wham are very popular world wide so it does better on streaming because of this.

They should put Wham! at the top of Xmas playlists for once. AIWFCIY is one of those songs that if I was DJing in a bar or club near Xmas, I would refuse to play that song
