and right now, Mariah is still not doing enough but if she goes over 1 million for a couple days this week while Ava/Ari remain at 300k, then Mariah can get the #1

also remember that the occ estimates Thu streams, so not sure how they're gonna do it with Mariah, maybe based on previous year, but anyway it will be pure guess and a total made up figure that is impossible to estimate imho

If Christmas day was thyrs or Friday I think she would def do it but she lose sales big time the way its falling on a tuesday.

As said before Christmas hits would theoretically did the best when Christmas day was on Wed (2019 Christmas day on Wed btw) since this is the last day of the tracking week to have accurate streams data from Spotify, AM etc (Those streams data tend to be late getting into OCC so that's why we have missing streaming data on mid week update) and then OCC have to estimate Thursday streams in order to publish the latest chart Friday Afternoon on time.

And even if Christmas fall on Wed does not mean 100% Mariah and other Christmas hits would get it, we need weak competition on other SCR tracks this time next year.

Those days aren't ideal!

If Christmas Day was on Thursday then she wouldn't have any of the streaming data from that day contribute to the Friday chart. I'm not convinced that 19th-24th Dec streams (and estimated streams for the 25th) would necessarily be enough to clinch it. She needs a week when Christmas Day streams are actually accounted for.

Christmas Day on Friday would be even worse, that would mean 18th-23rd streams are counted, Christmas Eve data isn't, and Christmas Day boost is isolated to the week after.

The ideal moment is when Boxing Day falls on a Thursday (which is actually happening in 2019). Then she'll have 20th-25th count, and it won't matter that the streams drop off on Boxing Day because they're estimated. Therefore Christmas Day on a Wednesday is the optimum day for Mariah (and for other Christmas songs to achieve their best peaks/sales).

This week in theory is a good opportunity for Mariah, because it includes 21st-25th Dec with high streams, then only 26th Dec will see a sharp decline, and the 27th streams won't count.

(Wrote this before noticing deepinside's reply!)

I actually think this week is the best chance for Mariah cos she'll probably get 0 streams on Thu

but theres no way for the occ to know that and Im sure they're gonna overestimate it by a lot

I know 2020 Christmas will fall on a Friday, it will skip a day cause its a leap year. Her best shot will be next year as Jay pointed out above.
Thank God for ACR is all I can say. No one need Mariah number 1 with a 24 year old song, then a sausage roll song, then Mariah again on the chart to be announced on Dec 28th.

The British streaming public disagrees.

As surreal as it will be to see Mariah get a #01 so late from it's original release date, what an acheivement! It's on a chart week no one really cares about, and bringing excitement / something different to the chart is no bad thing! As much as I despise LadBaby, it brought attention to non chart fans for the first time in years!

Mariah being number 1 wont bring any attention to the chart. I'm sure most people think AIWFCIY was already a number 1 upon release.

I can see them underestimating her if she is in with a shout so the public/media don't grab the story and make a mockery of the chart.

I think she has a big chance this Friday - as Dan pointed out she has over 700k today which was yesterday's info which is up from last year on the 23/12. So if this is repeated today and tomorrow she will be massively ahead of Ava and Ariana!

I have no doubt we'll see articles about Mariah reaching #1 24 years after release. It's a highly notable achievement! Sure, people probably do think it was already a #1, which will only increase the shock factor when the headlines arrive.

Agreed it's always my chart fact Party piece to advise everyone on Xmas day when Fairytale of New York is playing that the Pet Shop Boys beat it to no1 which most are incredulous of

Tbf most of the people streaming it dont even realise they are contributing to the charts

Most of the people streaming it are doing so from Xmas playlists. Unless loads of people are seeking out Matt Terry at xmas it is obvious the streaming chart is even more heavily lead by playlists at xmas than it is normally.
