After watching the UCI Track Cycling World Cup I'm hoping to be able to watch the final two rounds early this year! Other than that we've got all the big cycling tours later in the year to look forward to as per usual.

Three-time world champion and Olympic silver medallist Kelly Catlin has died aged 23, USA Cycling has confirmed.

 

Catlin won three straight team pursuit world titles on the track from 2016 to 2018, claiming silver in the same event at the Rio 2016 Games. Unfortunately it has been confirmed, by family that she took her own life :(

The family of three-time world champion cyclist Kelly Catlin, who died aged 23 last week, say she had changed after crashing her bike last year.

 

They believe she took her own life as a consequence of two accidents. Again this is just awful to hear.

Lizzie Deignan will make her return to cycling at the Amstel Gold Race on 21 April - seven months after giving birth to her daughter.

 

Deignan, 30, has been out of competition for more than a year and gave birth to Orla in September 2018.

 

The Amstel Gold Race - part of the UCI Women's World Tour - takes place in Limburg, the Netherlands.

Chris Froome will step up his preparations for the 2019 race at this month's Tour of the Alps.

 

Froome is joined in the field by Italian Vincenzo Nibali for the five-day race that begins on 22 April.

Belgian cyclist Victor Campenaerts has broken the one-hour world record set by Sir Bradley Wiggins four years ago.

 

The 27-year-old covered 55.089km at the Bicentenario velodrome in Mexico - 563m more than British rider Wiggins managed in London 2015.

 

Campenaerts picked the Aguascalientes venue because of its altitude of 1,800m.

Britain's Tao Geoghegan Hart claimed the first senior win of his career at the opening stage of the Tour of the Alps, while his Team Sky team-mate Chris Froome came sixth.

 

Geoghegan Hart, 24, edged out Alexander Aranburu of Spain and Switzerland's Roland Thalmann at the end of the 144km ride around Kufstein in Austria.

Mark Cavendish will race in the 2019 Tour de Yorkshire, which begins in Doncaster on Thursday, as he continues his return from illness. Live coverage of the Tour de Yorkshire will be on ITV4.

In the opening stage of the women's Tour de Yorkshire it was Dutch rider Lorena Wiebes who win. Lizzy Banks also claimed the Queen of the Mountains jersey.
