Tuesday 1st January

19:00 Doctor Who - 5.15m (22.4%)

20:00 Eastenders - 4.74m

21:00 Luther - 5.63m

22:00 Mrs Brown's Boys - 5.06m

ITV

17:00 The Chase - 3.86m

-

19:00 Emmerdale - 5.17m

20:00 Coronation Street - 5.39m

21:00 Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? - 3.39m

Channel 4

19:40 The Great New Year's Bake Off - 2.71m (11.9%)

21:00 The Inbetweeners: Fwends Reunited - 2.1m (10.7%)

A disappointing Doctor Who figure on first look but with context, it doesn't seem so bad. Pretty consistent with everything else on the night, and with pretty good competition from Emmerdale (in what is traditionally one of its highest rated days of the year, in its normal slot). I'm hoping it gets a good +7 figure!

Thursday 3rd January

BBC 1

19:30 Eastenders - 5.52m (26.7%)

-

20:30 Eastenders - 5.14m (23.5%)

21:00 Luther - 4.63m (21.6%)

ITV

20:30 The Cruise: Shanghai to Sydney - 2.8m (12.6%)

21:00 Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? - 3.4m (15.5%)

Decent figures for Eastenders considering what their ratings have been like recently. 5.52m is their highest since 24th April (5.64m) and the second episode just 400k less is pretty good for an out-of-slot episode.

Great retention for Eastenders, particularly for a Friday which typically sees a bit of a drop from the rest of the week. That's the highest Friday figure since 9th March. No episode next Monday and there's an Emmerdale clash next Tuesday, hopefully that won't spoil the momentum for Eastenders too much.

The Greatest Dancer makes its debut tonight, what's everyone expecting from the ratings? Faces a head-on clash with The Voice UK which opened last year with 5.64m (with little competition). Let It Shine debuted on Saturday 7th January 2017 and rated 6.25m, for comparison. That too faced little competition (only clashing with The Voice for the last 25 minutes). I think both shows could rate similarly, perhaps low 5 million each.

Solid night all round for both sides. Fantastic Beasts was about 1m higher than I thought and BBC was really solid.

Michael McIntyre topped the night with 6.15m proving it can hold up without a Strictly lead in!

4.5m for The Greatest Dancer I think and then stablise around 3.5-4m.

4.6m The Greatest Dancer

5.3m The Voice

Oooo interesting considering it was on at 8pm rather than the usual 9pm!

ITV must be very impressed if they've commissioned two more series, and one airing very soon!

Tbf it was their lowest rating show of last night sandwiched between Dancing On Ice and Manhunt both above 6m!

Excellent scheduling from ITV there and beating BBC One in every slot on their stronghold night!!

Ooh great that Manhunt managed 6m+! I believe it's stripped this week so maybe it's ratings will hold up well.

5.7m for Manhunt last night. Really good retention, has anyone been watching? Is it good? I was intrigued by the trailer.
