A nice little update from Billboard about UK album sales by the girls...

ALBUM ACHIEVEMENTS: In their career, the act released five studio albums and two greatest hits packages. Of those, all but one reached the top 10 in the U.K., and two of them topped the tally. Combined, those albums have sold 4 million copies in the U.K., according to the Official Charts Company.

Here's a look at Girls Aloud's performance on the U.K. Albums Chart, along with their total U.K. sales (according to the Official Charts Company):

Year - Title - Peak Position - Sales to Date

2002 - Sound of the Underground - No. 2 - 368,000

2004 - What Will the Neighbours Say? - No. 6 - 599,000

2005 - Chemistry - No. 11 - 390,000

2006 - The Sound of Girls Aloud: The Greatest Hits - No. 1 - 1.2 million

2007 - Tangled Up - No. 4 - 505,000

2008 - Out of Control - No. 1 - 796,000

2012 - Ten - No. 9 - 156,000

Their biggest seller is the 2006 best-of package "The Sound of Girls Aloud: The Greatest Hits," with 1.2 million sold. The group's most recent release, "Ten," their second greatest hits album, has moved 156,000.

WHAT ABOUT THE U.S.? - While Girls Aloud never properly released a single or album in the United States, a few of their releases are available to purchase digitally. Their first three studio albums, along with their first greatest hits set, are domestically available. Their combined digital song sales stand at 79,000 in the U.S. (according to Nielsen SoundScan), while those four albums have sold 8,000.

Great to see sales for all of their albums! Despite how much it's considered a flop, Chemistry has sold quite a bit more than Sound of the Underground.

Out of Control and What Will the Neighbours Say? are so close to passing 800k and 600k respectively - perhaps this will be done by 2014?

I wish the OCC would provide a fully updated singles list, with sales. Very pleased to have updated album sales, though!

Roughly speaking, their albums have grown by these amounts, since the last known figures:

TSOGA: 76,100 sales since 31st Jan '10.

OOC: 26,100 sales since 29th Nov '09.

TU: 14,300 sales since 21st Jun '09.

Chemistry: 7,600 sales since 21st Jun '09.

WWTNS?: 5,200 sales since 21st Jun '09.

SOTU: 1,500 sales since 21st Jun '09.

Just worked out roughly what they sell each year and it seems Out of Control will pass 800k and What Will the Neighbours Say? will pass 600k by 2014.

According to my estimate 3 Words passed the million mark this week.

That makes her a record-holder, am I correct? First female solo artist from a girl group to have a million-selling single and album!

Strange Music Week didn't confirm it since they've given sales quite a few times since it passed 980k. Unless it only just missed out this week.
Oh of course I could be wrong and I could be a few hundred out. On the other hand it wouldn't surprise me if MW don't mention it when it happens/ happened.
Well I wouldn't put it past MW if they ignored it, despite all the building of anticipation (at least for us lot). :P

3 Words is still agonisingly close to 1 million copies sold in the UK - it's now at 999,663 after 42 copies were sold last week :(

Well there were only 337 copies to go and seven weeks have passed since then, and Girls Aloud broke up within that time, so I think it's very likely that the millionth has been sold!

 Wonderful achievement! It would have been nice if both had done it more quickly, but at least they have now. Both getting into the 900k region, and then slowing down... so agonising.
