Despite a BBC Radio ban which started with Mike Read's on air refusal to play the record, this ended up as the sixth best selling single of all time in the UK. After the group's attempts to play the song in the studio were ditched by Trevor Horn, his own production team played all the instuments and Holly Johnson is the only band member to contribute to the final version.

This song was first recorded by Billy Joe Thomas in 1970 with the most well known version by Elvis Presley released in 1972. The Pet Shop Boys performed it on an ITV show marking ten years since Elvis died. After this performance was well received, they recorded it for a single and it was the Christmas no.1 in 1987.

oh Always on my Mind already out? :/ I gave it a 10 but considered giving it an 11

this is one of the best covers ever

And another great cover version now, this was originally recorded in 1985 by The Family,a funk group formed by Prince. Sinead's version spent four weeks at no.1 in 1990.

ohhh really thought this could be in the top 10, it is for me, actually I'm surprised I didn't give it an 11

everything is perfect about the song, the lyrics, the melody, the vocal delivery with such passion

a song for grown-ups, guess thats why it's not higher :)

Another Brick in the Wall Part 2 is an all-time favourite that should be a lot higher, an iconic video and a great singalong and atmospheric yet catchy best throughout. I get that it's a bit 'mainstream' by their standards, but it's still great.

A song which seems to polarise opinions on here with 14 tens and 3 zero scores. The Russian language version was no.1 for 18 weeks in Russia three years previously. This re-recorded version was produced by Trevor Horn and topped the UK chart for four weeks in 2003 helped no doubt by the publicity surrounding its controversial video.

Spice Up Your Life has now sold a million (I think)

I thought IWFWS would be near the top , seemed to get a lot of high scores .

This scored 23 points in the first round which was the cut off point for a semi-final place so it's done well to finish in the top 50. For a long time,I believed the urban myth that the boy at the end of the video is Gianfranco Zola on a school exchange trip from Italy but he confirmed in 2012 that it wasn't him.

I just needed to do a Google search to discover who's Gianfranco Zola.
