April 24, 20205 yr Author National League clubs voted to end the regular season at its current point, with promotion and relegation outcomes "under careful consideration". The league's board had urged clubs in its three divisions to vote in favour of ending the regular season without further games because of coronavirus. The league said there was a "clear majority of clubs in favour" from the almost 90% of responses returned. Football in the fifth and sixth tiers was suspended on 16 March. Clubs in the National League, National League North and National League South divisions that have not yet voted still have an opportunity to do so, the league's board said, but it "would not change the outcome".

A deadline of this Friday has been set for clubs to bring forward ideas to determine how they end the season. The National League board will have the final decision and it is set to meet again early next week. The English Football League is still working on the basis of two teams being promoted into League Two.

The Cumbrian side were four points clear when the season was suspended. The vote also means King’s Lynn Town and Wealdstone will be promoted as champions of National League North and South respectively.

The club was formed by fans of Bury FC, who were expelled from the English Football League in August. There was doubt over the status of the new club after the non-league seasons at seventh-tier level and below were voided by the Football Association. However, in the structure announced on Tuesday, Bury AFC have been given a place in the 20-team, 10th-tier league. Although the precise dates are yet to be confirmed, the North West Counties League is expected to start its season at the beginning of September following the recent change in government guidance regarding the coronavirus pandemic. Another new club, Isle of Man FC, will start in the equivalent Division One South.
