Posted November 9, 200618 yr Im sick of people in this forum ridiculing others and me because I happen to like a 'rubbish' film or dislike a 'classic' film  We all have our own opinion on films and some people like crude comedy, others like foreign stuff, some like slashers, some like intellectual drama Its OK to have debates but I hate getting called stupid for liking certain films <_< OK rant over ^_^
November 9, 200618 yr Like as many 'rubbish' films as you want, but the problem you have is your apparent stunning lack of knowlege of Cinema history and anything made before 1980... You have scant respect for the actual originals of films that are remade, and often I frankly doubt you've even seen half the films you criticise seeing as how you are almost totally unwilling to enter into an in-depth debate to back up your arguments despite all the opportunities given to you. Have opinions, sure, just back them up with an actual credible argument and maybe I'll have a little more respect for your opinion. If you dont want to be thought of as 'stupid' then actually have something to say instead of the 'Beavis and Butthead'-type of 'this rules, this sucks' opinions you seem to put across... I never criticise a film without actually seeing it first....

But does it actually matter if I don't have knowledge of cinema before I was even born  ER NO, I like a lot of films from a lot of genres and Im sick of you giving off all this intellectual c**p about films to makwe yourself seem so smart and above everyone. Youre not and you should accept some people don't want to watch films from the 1980's and some people enjoy these so called 'rubbish' films. Personally most of the films you have said are great I find awful, I dont care what political/social relevance it has, if its not entertaining I will get bored.
November 10, 200618 yr Author And when have I criticised a film before seeing it  The only debate I remember was about the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and I HAVE seen both versions and I prefer the remake as do many people, and some prefer the original, just get iover the fact that just because you like a film, it doesnt mean everyone else should
November 10, 200618 yr Author And please don't say 'I do film studies and have more knowledge than you' because who cares if you have done film studies  The film makers dont produce films thinking 'Right, this is going to appeal who have done film studies'

If you dont know about cinema history or have a knowlege of these guys, then you dont know jack sh!t about cinema as far as I'm concerned.... My love of cinema began when I first saw "Psycho" as a 10-year old.... You just wont believe the impact that had on me, it had nowt to do with studying. As I got older, I started to look behind what was going on on the screen... It aint about being clever, it's about being well-read, doing some simple research, taking the time to actually look at films films (instead of just letting it wash over you like a couch potato, trust me, you'll get a hell of a lot more out of it...). if you don't actually investigate or look, then you're never gonna actually see what the film-maker is actually trying to accomplish and you do a dis-service both to yourself and the film-maker; you're just fooling yourself if you think any good film-maker is purely making a film to just 'entertain'. If you dont recognise the underlying themes a film puts across, then you're only getting about half of the story... It's not 'intellectual c**p'. It's actually about having a healthy respect for an artform and those talented individuals who create the films we watch, something you and those hacks who inflict endless streams of sub-standard remakes upon us clearly have no concept of....

Not everyone likes artsy fartsy c**p. I love most remakes except Hills Have Eyes which took 45 minuted for anything good to happen
November 10, 200618 yr Not everyone likes artsy fartsy c**p. I love most remakes except Hills Have Eyes which took 45 minuted for anything good to happen  Hmmm, I write a well-thought out and argued piece and you respond with...erm....this.......   Do me a favour and actually HAVE some kind of intelligent argument or response lest you risk embarrassing yourself... Aren't you actually embarrassed that we have foreign language posters who have vastly better English vocabularies and can actually structure a good, well thought argument far better than you..? (Tigerboy being one example..) I would be, I would be bloody mortified and actually go and read a few books to improve my vocabulary and language skills. I'm saying this for your own good mate, but you'll probably just call me a 'snob'. Fine, do so if that makes you feel better about your own blissful ignorance... But how stupid will YOU feel in the future if and when you have kids and you dont possess the basic intellectual abilities to help them with their homework....? And just what the fukk are you talking about..? PLENTY happens in the "Hills Have Eyes" remake.... You clearly missed the prologue sequence where the guys in the chem suits get fukkin' WASTED and chopped to bits by the mutants and the scene where the father character gets shot... Nothing happens??? You never hear of a build up of tension...? It kinda makes the horror more horrible when it DOES actually happen. First basic rule of Horror film-making that is....

Im not really embarrassed to be honest I have better things to do with my life than spending hours on here writing out essay like debates and I have 2 kids on the way thanks ^_^
November 10, 200618 yr I have better things to do with my life than spending hours on here writing out essay like debates and I have 2 kids on the way thanks ^_^ Then you better start with the reading mate, cos when they start asking questions and you dont have any answers, you WILL feel embarrassed and stupid.... Doesn't take hours to write out a debate anyway.... Only took me 5 mins....
November 10, 200618 yr Author Then you better start with the reading mate, cos when they start asking questions and you dont have any answers, you WILL feel embarrassed and stupid.... I do read , Nuts and Zoo thank you :smoke:
November 10, 200618 yr Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and I HAVE seen both versions and I prefer the remake as do many people    oh Callum, for that one admittance just then - you definitely SHOULD be ashamed. Very ashamed.
November 10, 200618 yr Author    oh Callum, for that one admittance just then - you definitely SHOULD be ashamed. Very ashamed. Well the original was OK but didn't scare me AT ALL, in fact I found it funny whereas the remake wasnt really scart at all but was a bit more creepy :smoke:
November 10, 200618 yr Personally I often enjoy reading GRIMLY FIENDISH's post's although you can be a bit intimidating at times :P lol But movies unlike music is more of a grey area. Some people think Jackass is a masterpiece, others would rather go on a date with leatherface then watch c**p like that. lol, and so on. Their is nothing wrong with a healthy debate - that is the "fun" of the cinema forum I think. Edited November 10, 200618 yr by Ozmead
November 10, 200618 yr Ah yes, but the whole point of a Cimema forum is to discuss your opinion. I can back up for ages why I think bridget Jones Dairy is a class film, the same way I could back up why I think Some Like It Hot is a classic. Callum is just dismissing other people opinion, and then gets annoyed when others do the same back to him. For the record, I think GRIMLYS posts are amoungst the best on the whole fourm.

November 10, 200618 yr Well the original was OK but didn't scare me AT ALL, in fact I found it funny whereas the remake wasnt really scart at all but was a bit more creepy :smoke: Well, there is a deliberate element of BLACK HUMOUR in the original, the intent of which is to make you unsure and nervous and give the film overall an uneven tone..... Which is something the horrendous, pointless and stupid recent films just totally excises and misses. The film-makers seem to think that just by being unrelentingly gory and sadistic and having nothing to actually say for itself makes for a good film, it doesn't, it's tedious, boring and completely banal... But then, when you see the name 'Michael Bay' on the producer credits, you realise where the 'banal', 'tedious' and 'boring' elements come from.... Bay makes Jerry Bruckheimer seem like David O Selznick.... The "Sequel", is one of the most depressing toilets of a film that I have ever seen in my life. Truly Film-making from the gutter, zero tension (because we all know the kids are gonna die, otherwise the events in the first one cant happen..) absolutely NOTHING to recommend it beyond a decent performance by R Lee Ermey, but we all know that he's done vastly better work than this pile of crud anyway (ie the Gunnery Sergeant in "Full Metal Jacket"....)

Well the black humour obviously didn't work then did it because me and my mum found it hilarious, I didnt feel uneasy and unsure ^_^ Remake was gory???? Wre you watching the same film as me  There was about 1 gory moment in the whole film! The rest of it was rather creepy, brilliantly acted, and superbly written.
November 10, 200618 yr Im not dismissing his opinion actually, I accept he likes films which I don't like, but I find him very patronising when someone DARES not to like one of his precious favourites Gimme strength..... ....Criticise, WITH AN ACTUAL COHERENT ARGUMENT..... That is what I'm asking for, well, for about the umpteenth bloody time actually.... Consie and I have disagreed on a few films, but you know what....? He/she actually BACKS UP THEIR CRITICISM WITH A WELL ARGUED OPINION, something to actually address, grapple with and debate a point or two. You're giving me NOTHING TO WORK WITH mate, so if I'm dismissive of you then it's only because you don't properly argue or debate, it's not as if I dont give you plenty of opportunity to engage in a debate, but you just dont seem to have the nous to take up the gauntlet when it is asked of you....

But Ive already said, I havent got time to write an essay on a film I like because you don't! I like The Texas Chainsaw massacre Remake because I found it creepy, and I found the acting very convincing and I felt really sorry for the characters. Now Im not going to waste 30 minutes of my day writing an essay on why i think its a good film because there the main reasons I found it scary. You may not agree but I dont really care ^_^
