Before last week Radio 1 would just be playing their most played songs of the week yet again at this time so this is definitely better!

I've put this on this week after missing it last week, first time hearing the Sam Smith song and liking it quite a lot, Sam is really going for the redemption arc after how awful he'd been from 'Stay With Me' up to the end of his second album era.

A big :') at 'Castles' being skipped in favour of 'Someone You Loved' though. And 'bad guy' getting the reset despite the Bieber remix not actually giving it that much of a second wind  at least it should be back on ACR in 3 weeks lol ~

It's really not this big a deal, we didn't even get Sunday midweeks before so let's be grateful for what we've got. I'll just hit play on Higher Love after this show

Everything is teething problems at first, they may revise the format in the coming weeks....

Wish you Well is amazing, really sounds like a #1

probably would have been a #1 back in the day when dance hits were dominating the charts more than now

what is the sample used in the song? the "high" part?

Biography

West London grime MC Che Wolton Grant (aka AJ Tracey) rose through the ranks of pirate radio, becoming one of the leading figures in U.K. grime's second generation of artists. Grant knew from a young age that he wanted to pursue a career in music, due in part to his parents; not only was his dad a former rapper from Trinidad & Tobago, his mother was a former drum'n'bass DJ from Wales. By age six, Grant had started writing rhymes, coinciding with the first great boom in grime. Although the genre temporarily lost its way, Grant soldiered on, unwilling to give up on his passion for grime. By the time he had reached his early twenties, grime had started another upswing. During this time Grant became proactive in his pursuit of radio spots, working his way up through pirate radio before scoring appearances on Rinse.DM, NTS, and eventually even BBC Radio One. With his reputation in the world of radio firmly cemented, Grant released a string of EPs, beginning with The Front EP in July 2015, followed by the Alex Moran EP later the same year. In 2016, he further solidified his status as an emerging talent, with a combination of solid collaborations, more radio appearances, and the release of the Lil Tracey EP. The end of 2016 culminated with Grant's nomination on BBC's Sound of 2017. - iTunes

what is the sample used in the song? the "high" part?

Look on this website, whosampled.com may help

I hope this can climb during the week again, was thinking it might be challenging for top 5 this week (the reset for Billie not helping tho ofc).

oh just figured it out,

"So High" by MIST feat. Fredo (English Rapper) sampled Toni Braxton's "You're Makin' Me High".

I thought I recognised the sample, great to have Toni Braxton back in the charts

Biography

Scottish singer/songwriter Lewis Capaldi began creating a buzz in early 2017 with the release of his debut single, "Bruises," a brooding exploration of a failed relationship that introduced his intimate piano and vocal sound. On the strength of his lone single, the Bathgate native sold out legendary Glasgow club King Tut's and notched millions of streams before dropping his follow-up single, the equally stark "Lost on You," later that summer. After signing with Virgin Records, Capaldi included both songs on his debut EP, Bloom, and capped off his banner year with a Scottish Music Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year. The front half of 2018 was spent touring in North America and Europe in advance of his next single, "Rush," featuring Jessie Reyez. "Tough" followed a few months later. - iTunes

Biography

When singer-songwriter Billie Eilish feels something new, the first thing she does is take out her phone and write it down. “You can write anything,” she told Apple Music in an interview for the Up Next series. “You can say the truth, and you can not tell anyone that it’s the truth—you can just write it, and it’ll be yours.” Raised and homeschooled in Los Angeles by actor/musician parents, Eilish (born Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell in 2001) started writing songs when she was around 11, exploring a strain of melancholy, minimal and slightly surrealistic pop influenced as much by Lana Del Rey as the radical honesty of rappers like Tyler, the Creator and Earl Sweatshirt. Writing and recording with her brother—and producer—Finneas O’Connell at their parents’ house, Eilish released dont smile at me in 2017, followed by an ever-evolving series of singles—a prime example of the fact that, in the streaming era, artists are now free to move directly from their bedrooms into the spotlight. Despite the attention, Eilish is doing her best to stake out a space of freedom and fluidity, expanding her range of collaborators (Vince Staples, Khalid) and dodging easy definition. “If people think I have a sound, if people are like, ‘Oh yeah, her sound is this,’ if someone asks you what my sound is and you have an answer for them—you’re wrong,” she told Beats 1’s Zane Lowe. “Instead of trying to find a sound, when I want to make something and when I have an idea of what I want to make, I’m just going to make that.” - iTunes

so it's Senorita, Ed x 3 and Bad guy in the top 5
radio 1, we don't wanna hear the Bieber version :D

The only thing this remix will be good for is if it prevents Old Town Road breaking the #1 record on Billboard.

Unfortunately we also have to put up with this rebound...
