November 2, 20195 yr I don’t think Katy will ever be irrelevant full stop. She once headlined the Super Bowl they don’t just give anyone that, she’ll be remembered for decades to come and shes a record breaker too. She’s not the most consistent female in pop or the most talented but when she sticks to pop music what isn’t too much on having a serious message / theme then she’s pretty great. I actually think a long break right now would be more harmful too. We need some big performances from her though and some genuine promotion too if she’s going to be dropping singles / videos. If she wants success then she needs to stop appearing to look like she’s too try hard and just go back to being pop Katy. People have mentioned Xtina as an example here which in some ways I can see but the reason why Xtinas solo success died is because of promotion. Pink outlasted Britney and Xtina as a threat in the charts because you know when she has material out. With Katy lately... you don’t really know she does unless you follow the charts. Small Talk and Harleys don’t feel like they’ve been pushed.
November 2, 20195 yr Small Talk was definitely pushed, US centrically though Doesn't she have a tv show to perform like every week early next year so a fantastic song premiered there could do the trick.
November 4, 20195 yr I think she'll continue to judge talent shows and rely on her back catalog... maybe even release a greatest hits album!?
November 4, 20195 yr Shame she doesn't have a big Xmas song like Mariah. Guess that's why her team keep releasing one every year.
November 4, 20195 yr A- Like Joseph says she had a massive hit, literally 2 songs ago and a #1 on a collab (partly coz of her name being with Calvin) a couple of years ago. B- I'm intrigued but why can't an album work? There are plenty of artists who still get hit/moderate selling albums with no hits nowadays. She'll need to do a bit of a shift and go down the R2/adult contemporary route, but another hit album isn't out of the question, either. Because Katy has never been an album artist. The reason her albums sold well is because she had massive singles. And even then her album sales don't match the succes of the singles that supported it
December 5, 20195 yr Because Katy has never been an album artist. The reason her albums sold well is because she had massive singles. And even then her album sales don't match the succes of the singles that supported it Not totally true. Teenage dream - the album has sold over 1.3 million to date. Not sure if any of her singles have reached that amount yet but I know a few have sold a million.
December 6, 20195 yr But we also have to take into account that the Teenage Dream era lasted more than two years, re-release included. Six singles on the regular album (four of them post-release) would have been more than enough to push the album’s sales to that amount, possibly over. It doesn’t really prove anything.
