Monday mids are in - it's not looking too great at the moment:

#91 - Spiceworld

#135 - Greatest Hits

A glimmer of hope: In the picture disc release week, Greatest Hits started out being midweek #21 on Monday. It dipped to midweek #26 on Tuesday. But then in Wednesday mids it shot up to midweek #11... which suggests that missing sales were added at that point. Sammy and I have theorised that it might be thesoundofvinyl/recordstore stores reporting their data quite late.

Maybe it's clutching at straws, but perhaps the same 'late data' situation will happen with Spiceworld and this version of Greatest Hits. Their physical sales in today's mids look surprisingly low. Particularly Spiceworld when you consider it reached the Top 10 on Amazon.

A bit later on I'll share more specific sales info!

#91 isn’t great to be honest. Their social media pages have only posted about the Spiceworld vinyl. No promotion for the GH on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.

They haven’t even given the SW vinyl another push this week via stories or anything

#91 - Spiceworld

512 sales

468 Physicals [468 Vinyl]

42 Streaming

2 Downloads

#135 - Greatest Hits

393 sales

204 Physicals [183 Vinyl, 21 CDs]

184 Streaming

5 Downloads

At least those numbers give us some insight what Spiceworld might do in an average week on streaming - 80-100-ish maybe?

I'm hopeful there is some missing data as they seem awfully low for how well they had been doing on pre-orders.

The GH averaging about 700 sales weekly right now, which is frustrating as it takes 800ish sales to chart top 200 and its downloads were 70 to 80 a week when it was £4.99 on itunes not the current £11.99. Also its cd sales are awful as it's out of stock on hmv online and many hmv stores don't have any copies either. Fixing both of those could see it charting most weeks top 200.

Thanks for all the insights guys!

Definitely there didnt seem to be much buzz this time at all for either, personally. But hopefully the pre-orders are matched to the current sales a bit more down the line over the week. If this is the stark reality, then we can probably kiss goodbye both Top100 and Top200 for both of them eh... probably low Top200 for both at best.

Anyway, at least they are out! (trying to keep positive in this corona virus world!)

The GH will definitely chart top 200 it was outselling Spiceworld by a big margin yesterday thanks to streaming/cd sales that Spiceworld isn't getting that the extra vinyl sales cant make up for.

So we should definitely get an updated total sale for the GH Friday and fingers crossed Spiceworld too.

Would be such a shame if Spiceworld didn’t chart :(

Even though the SW vinyls are doing better, I’m surprised the GH is doing better overall but I guess it’s their most active album in terms of streaming, CD sales and downloads

I think we will have a better idea on Wednesday, when the picture disc was released it sold over 1k copies supposedly tuesday and 30 copies wednesday according to the midweeks. Which obviously is just sales all getting reported 1 day and not another.

Me and Jay have done a bit more delving and there really looks to be data missing for the vinyls. Spiceworld sold 50 copies yesterday of which 21 were streaming, that means 29 were vinyls and downloads. There is no way the vinyl only sold 29 copies Sunday, that would be 29 copies from HMV, HMV online, Amazon, Sound of vinyl, udiscover, indie stores etc all combined.

There are definitely some of these stores who are or haven't reported their vinyl sales yet.

The vinyls are back on the rise on Amazon after they seem to have sorted their stocking issues out (at one point it said Spiceworld might take 4 weeks to arrive).

Spiceworld - Amazon bestsellers CD and vinyl #150

Greatest Hits - Amazon bestsellers CD and vinyl #385

As things stand, it doesn't look likely that either album will make the Top 200 on Friday. I'm pretty shocked!

They had 130 days of pre-order on Amazon. In the last 38 days of that pre-order period, it was available via HMV, thesoundofvinyl etc. As of Wednesday's midweek they had been on sale for 5 days. This has resulted in... 515 vinyl sales for Spiceworld and 205 vinyl sales for Greatest Hits (by the end of Tuesday). :/

I'm still keeping everything crossed that some data hasn't been reported yet, but I'm losing faith!

I'm also losing faith in them even bothering to press Forever, considering that there's been such tepid sales for these releases. I know there'll have been worldwide sales too, but still... eek. Honestly, Forever was the one I was most excited about owning as a vinyl, so I really hope it still happens. I fear what the sales for it would be though!

After all the fan demand over the years for Spiceworld to be reissued on vinyl, I'm incredibly surprised that only a little over 500 UK fans have bought copies.

Wednesday Mids:

#158 - Spiceworld [590 sales] (515 vinyl / 2 download / 73 streaming)

#172 - Greatest Hits [551 sales] (205 vinyl / 27 cd / 7 download / 312 streaming)

So much flop. Emma brought the demand down with her awful covers album, otherwise it would've sold 50k at least.
It's an old material. Some fans got tired of the milking. It's six months after the tour, the buzz had gone. They didn't appear together or being active as a band whatsoever, so casual fans couldn't care less. Lazy as usual. Now a serious question, are they gonna hold on to those two albums forever? If yes, then they deserve to be surpassed by DC or TLC.

Unfortunately I agree. These vinyl releases are for straight up hardcore fans who will buy every single thing the group releases. Unfortunately it is just not good enough, even for the majority of fans, let alone casual fans or the general public.

Appropriate promotion would have helped, but you know what would also would have helped? Giving us more incentives to buy these vinyls. They offer nothing new from their previous editions so whats the point?

They *literally* called it 'Deluxe editions' but didnt provide any deluxe materials on them

They defo could have put Step to me on the Spiceworld vinyl as a massive incentive.

Even that would have been an incentive. Hell, put Step To Me on both Spiceworld and Greatest Hits vinyls and that would have made sense. Also, honouring the original GH design would have been much - MUCH - better than this and at least would have given the fans more incentive as well.

Middle-of-the-road releases get middle-of-the-road results. That has been the way they have handled releases since Forever in 2000, and it shows...

I guess they saw the success of the picture disc and got greedy but that was in the middle of a reunion.

It needs to be put in perspective though, Spiceworld is the 6th best selling vinyl so far this week in the UK, so it's not like it's not actually selling well on the format. For example Little Mix last album charted at #16 on the vinyl chart.
