It was a good performance.People on twitter always criticise everything, I dont there has ever been a performance by a pop artist where you dont have a shit load of people criticising it online for the sake of nothing!

Spice Girls at the Olympics got a good reaction :cheer:

I just think people are being way too nice about this performance and song. If an artists you didn't like released High Heels and did that performance, let's say Cheryl Cole would people in here like it.

I love Mel, she is talented but this ain't it. Imagine if that performance new years eve Graham Norton had been a great song like Burn, with a great vocal.

For me Castles by Freya ridings is where Mel should be pitching her music. Her last hit Loving you was of a very similar ilk to Castles too.

I don't know what Cheryl is up to. But I've never seen her do anything this interesting.

With that performance, on that show, Melanie has done something truly beneficial for the LGBT community. Think about the young, queer kids who may have seen that performance. There's such a strong message in those lyrics.

Put on your high heels, be different, love yourself.

This video kind of says just that:

I'm not really a fan of Cheryl Cole and I thought the Love made me do it song was crap, however I liked her X Factor performance of it, even thought she got slated (yet another example)

The Spice Girls are of a completely different field to Melanie C. It's still "cool" to slate solo Spice Girl performances Emma didn't get universal praise for her The One show performance and Geri got slated for her Wannabe performance on Australian X Factor (which I thought was lovely)...

The ones saying she couldn't sing... I mean ridiculous. Most were actually transphobic comments about Sink The Pink which say's it all. Some didn't like the song which I don't particularly like it either. The performance itself was good though.

The UK has had a very progressive attitude towards drag and trans. Lets not forget that during the 90s Lily Savage was one of the hottest TV personalities who me and my family sat down to watch on saturday nights present Blankety Blank a game show. Lily however was quick witted and used her drag in very clever ways.

Well there were comments about Sink The Pink and "the state of them" so either there are just a few trolls and Melanie C wasn't not universally slated or the UK is not progressive and everyone hated Melanie based on twitter comments. You can't have it both ways.

Oh my point was more drag queens, like so much of everything, has been degraded and brought down to the lowest common denominator. Sink the pink seem to serve zero purpose, they aren't as good as trained dancers, they don't sing backing vocals, they aren't witty or contribute anything bar a slight shock value of men in skimpy women's clothes.

In a world where F1 has done away with women in skimpy clothes on the grid, because they serve no purposes bar to titillage which offends some people, I'm not surprised skimpy clothes men serving little purpose offends some too.

Most people tend to confused voice tone with singing skills, if they don't like the voice then that artist is not a good singer. Melanie can sing very well but her tone could put some people off as a solo and that performance on Graham she was obviously nervous, it was her first major slot in ages, she wasn't at her best vocally. As for Sink the Pink, they're just not on that level yet, too amateur but I love their fun positive spirits. The choreograph was also bad, again too amateur. The lyrics were a bit cringe too, put those all together I can see the negative comments came from and if you look at other performances on Graham such as, Dua Lipa, Kylie, even Niall or Harry, you'll see the differences. I hope she gets another shot when the album comes out and slays.

To be fair - can Melanie C afford dancers beyond Sink the Pink? Would she get these promo slots without them? I'd say no. They're clearly a collective that's getting a bit of hype behind the scenes, so it's not a bad thing for Melanie to get in on the ground floor, even if it won't give her a hit with High Heels.

And yeah, a lot of people do confuse not liking a voice with bad vocals. With that said, there was a few trip ups, but no worse than your usual pop star performance.

I was talking about overall performance, it looked too amateur. And with her new management team plus spice buzz I'm sure she could get that major slot without Sink the Pink.

I don't like Mariah Carey voice, or Lady Gaga but they are amazing performer. I don't like Chocolat at all, but i know whan a chocolat cake is good or not. I give a tried sometimes even if it's not my cup of tea.

Lily Savage was hardly a good representation of real LGBT people. She was a comedy character. And while I appreciate a good comedy drag act, without the context of real LGBT people on the telly, it was about as progressive as a panto dame.

Sink The Pink on the other hand, demonstrate that real queer people are relevant, empowered and talented. They are not just a punchline in a very tired, old joke.

Sink the pink demonstrates talent how? They literally are only getting attention because they are men in skimpy women's clothes. Are they great dancers, no, have they sung a note, no. There wasn't any artistry in their performance, they just strutted and pranced around.

Drag queens used to be funny, great performers or singers, Sink the pink are the Instagram answer to drag queens which is posers.

The annoying thing is Mel has herself lowered down to that level too for this release with the most basic lyrics and song of her career.

It was all for fun and joy she was having fun performing it and the pride fans were dying to get the song

But drag queens are not supposed to just be funny that’s what he was saying, the point is getting representation of drag queens who simply feel happy dressed as they are not just comedians.

Anyway it’s the highest charting solo spice single on the download charts since Loving You so it’s clearly done it’s jobs as let’s face it none of the girls are ever likely to chart on the main chart again now.

For me drag was a sort of performance art or they are transvestite surely? If Mel C had some trans people dancing with her in nice clothes then that would have been actually powerful, representative and not tacky.

FYI:

Drag = Performer

Transvestite = Gets sexually off on dressing like the other sex

Transsexual = Feels / Wants to be or present as the other sex.

Of course these intersect often but I'm surprised how often people get these definitions wrong.
