Just watched 'The Turning'.

All I'll say is don't. :drama:

Oh really? I haven't seen too much about it tbh. Is it dull?

Updated with a trailer for 'Spiral' - a spinoff for Saw! Looks exciting/different, excited to see what direction they take it in.

'Fantasy Island' has been pushed back from Feb 14th to March 6th unfortunately, hopefully that doesn't indicate the quality of the film like other push backs :(.

I'm starting to see advertisements and hype for Fantasy Island a lot rn. I wonder why they've pushed it back? To avoid Harley Quinn (which has actually got fantastic reviews so will have a slower drop off rate), maybe?

I'm SO excited for Spiral! I wasn't sure a reboot/reworking was necessary, especially with Chris Rock's name attached to it, but the trailer threw me back to Saw 1 meets Se7en. I'm really intrigued and am now more hopeful that it's gonna be a genuine thriller/horror as opposed to silly, ott death traps galore!

SPIRAL - MAY 15TH - SAW SEQUEL - CHRIS ROCK

Chris Rock playing a horror film? That's interesting. He's a brilliant character but we're so preconditioned to see him doing comedy. I'm intrigued!

Yeah I'm interested too, I agree with Jonjo in that it looks a lot like Seven meets Saw!

In other news, remakes galore in Candyman, Anaconda, Wrong Turn and Urban Legend all being remade 🥴🥴🥴. GET SOME NEW IDEAS!!!

I've got high hopes at least for Candyman given its Jordan Peele directing, I feel like he can do a lot of good with that film given the premise and themes that could be explored.

Yeah, I think Candyman could be good!

Its just annoying, make a similar film instead or something

I thought Candyman was going to be a sequel? :o

(Even if it is, your point still stands tbh)

Also, Jordan Peele is only writer & producer. Nia DaCosta is the director.

The Boy 2 has 0% on RT ffs 😭 why is it so hard to make a decent horror film?

At least The Invisible Man and Antebellum should be good.

Early reviews for The Invisible Man are solid, I heard. I'm so excited for Antebellum!

But ughhhhh. We've had a surprisingly high amount of horrors so far and ALL of them are 20% or below on RT! FFS. In fact, they're getting worse!

The Grudge 20%

The Turning 12%

Fantasy Island 10%

The Boy 2 0%

I thought that they would learn that formulaic horror just doesn't work anymore or entice audiences in, it's not like any of them have been a Box Office success either??
If you want a great horror film that is far from formulaic, then I'd recommend The Lighthouse :magic: (I definitely wouldn't put it in the same category as a lot of films in this thread, but it was mentioned earlier and of the genre sooo). I saw it this week and its both stunning visually, thematically and acting-wise, I love how Eggers really puts so much thought and symbolism into his films yet keeps it extremely engaging until you're questioning what you just saw, I haven't stopped thinking about it.
