From what it looks like it'll just be whatever Radio 1's favourite songs of that year are.

If there really is going to be no Chart of the Decade that is a huge disappointment.

If that’s the case, I hope we hear a lot of trance when they’re playing 2001 ie Fragma, Ian Van Dahl etc

I agree I was looking forward to it.

They are basically just doing radio 1s greatest hits then.

Do they not normally replay the Big Weekend in that week?

I hate the tradition were people stop playing Christmas songs during actual Christmas. Thankfully last year MTV channels played the official top 40 still through the full week.

Yeah, it is weird people will listen to Christmas songs in November but consider Christmas over the minute they've opened their presents...

That's disappointing! I wouldn't mind hearing some semi-forgotten gems during Radio 1 Anthems though, 3 hours per year gives them enough time to play more than just the obvious hits...

Any chance the OCC will give the end-of-decade chart some fanfare on its own, without Radio 1?

That's consumerism for you....

Hope so. If they do I'll do a Mixcloud show of the top 100.

  • 3 weeks later...

Schedule has been updated to now include the new/student/local DJs that are covering most of the shows between Boxing Day and New Year. The Radio 1 Anthems shows will also be presented by new and upcoming presenters.

Poor Katie Thistleton stuck doing 2 shows on New Year’s Day  I suspect that will change at some point

1Xtra’s takeover on the 28th also includes new presenters too.

Does anyone know if it's been confirmed whether the indie shows are taking over daytime shows in the first week of the year for the Sound Of countdown?

They’re not, it’s business as usual from the 6th

They haven't done so for a few years, you clearly haven't been listening.
