There were some rumours going around a few weeks ago that it was England and Germany that were against the larger squads, primarily because 3-5 players of the 23 man squad barely play anyway and it can effect squad harmony. I'd like us to take an extra midfielder who can play in the "two" rather than an attacking one, otherwise Phillips, Bellingham and an unfit Rice & Henderson is asking for trouble.

April 28, 20214 yr The additional room means you can leave out less good but versatile players in favour of two specialists. Taking Eric Dier makes far more sense in a 23 than in a 26 when you can take a centre half and a midfielder instead of one backup who can do both
