This has obviously been a massive smash for him but I remember that this came out the same weekend as Taylor's 'Me' and I thought it was going to be a tight race to see who got my #1 but they both ended up being slightly underwhelming and missed out on top spot. I think listening to the album just shows that's he's capable of much better with a few more HITH tracks (and Sounds Of The Skeng) to come. It is much better than 'Me' though, I'll give it that.

Over the past couple of days of Twitter, Wiley have made it abundantly clear that he's not a fan of Stormzy, even with this loving homage to him. This song apes the flow (and some of the lyrics) to the epic Wiley diss-track 'Nightbus Dubplate' and uses it show how Stormzy is the current king of grime. This track is a little less commercial than most of Stormzy's recent releases which I think a lot people wanted to hear again.

The video is bright and playful which certainly shows a different side to her than the dark, emoish vibe to her previous releases. This could do with going away for a bit so I can begin to fully appreciate it again.

This song is complete trash but I couldn't stop singing "bust down Thotiana" after I first heard it. Blueface has a style where he frequently raps off beat which helped make the song standout but I fear he's a one-trick pony and it would get old by the 2nd song he's done it in (I don't know because I'm yet to hear anything else from him). Cardi B's lucky to get a credit here as I only really listened to her remix for the first week or so and then only listened the original for the rest of the year.

This song was recorded while everyone was getting high and you can certainly tell. Everyone else raps a verse while Buddy get's increasingly annoyed and cutting them off because he just wants to smoke and have fun: "this is not a rap session. We gettin' high". The song's silly but very funny. Nobody needed to but everyone comes in with fire verses too, especially J.I.D, you would get annoyed with Buddy cutting them off if he wasn't being so hilarious himself.

In the battle of the Bops, OT beats out Vossi. NSG are really like the modern-day version of So Solid Crew, no one knows for sure how many members they've got, probably not helped by Tion Wayne also appearing in this video despite not featuring. :lol: This is nowhere near as good as Options but still has great production and is a bit of a tune.

Old Town Road, Strike A Pose and Bad Guy were among my favourite hits of the year, enjoyed Leave Me Alone and Down Bad at the time as well, and glad to see some recognition for Needy, my favourite album track on TUN! Bullet From A Gun is easily my favourite track from Skepta's album, and Greaze Mode was really good too.

 

Alex from Glasto's performance of Thiago Silva was incredible and similarly made me a fan of the original afterwards!

 

And superb to see The Weeknd's two new tracks (and Lost In The Fire) make it in here, particularly love Blinding Lights at the moment!

I'd rank Needy as my 4th favourite album track but it's definitely a great song. Bullet From A Gun is a very fair shout as the highlight on Ignorance Is Bliss too.

 

The Weeknd is very consistent in my charts although I think these 2 are not his best.

This is one of the tracks from the Kill This Love EP. The outro where they all sing together is really my favourite part of the song and is the main reason why I keep going back to it (and maybe Lisa's rap too). Obviously, Kill This Love is going to be much higher but this was in a close race with Don't Know What To Do every week in my chart.

We go all the way back to 1997 for this entry. Last year I decided to binge Peep Show and this is of course the theme for the opening titles of that show. I'm not sure I've ever seen somebody else's song fit the tone of a show as well as this one. Binging TV shows seems to be fertile ground for hits in my charts after The 88 managed to get an EOY top 10 hit with 'At Least It Was Here' after I watched Community.

Say what you like about the 'Jesus Is King' album, and a lot of people have, the production is absolute fire like it always is when Kanye's doing it. This is probably the most commercial track from the album and samples the same song that Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1 did. The lyrics are pretty poor (the Tyler Perry line sounds like it makes sense when you're listening to it but when you then go back to think about it, it doesn't at all) but Kanye is back to using his old flow and screaming in the outro and that's all most people really want from him.

Follow God was easily my favourite track from JESUS IS KING, a moment of real quality! Really good flow and still love the scream at the end too!

Follow God was certainly a high point on JIK but I preferred one track that's still to come in my countdown :D
