35. Be Someone- Camelphat feat. Jake Bugg

34. boyfriend- Ariana Grande feat. Social House

33. Lights Up- Harry Styles

32. I Fell In Love With The Devil- Avril Lavigne

31. Lose You To Love Me- Selena Gomez

Possibly my most basic 5 songs in a row coming up here starting with shoulda-been-a-smash Be Someone by Camelphat & Jake Bugg. I narrowly missed out on seeing this live at Parklife Festival this year and I was gutted as this became one of my defining songs of the summer what with Camelphat’s now signature sound partnered with Bugg’s drowsy vocals being the perfect late night dance song. My personal fave Ari song of the year is up next with boyfriend featuring the lovely Social House. The title of my fave Ariana song of the year at one point belonged to 7 rings, then bloodline, then bad idea, then break up with your girlfriend, I’m bored but looking back on the year; this was the defining Ariana song of the year for me with its R&B influence, smooth delivery, super fun video (and possibly my fave of her 2019 ones), a win all round for me. Harry Styles up next with Lights Up a fun departure from that 70s rock styling of the first era to a more electronic but still mature sound I’d hoped to see him explore, Adore You is probably going to overtake this as my Harry song of 2019 but for now we have this as my highest 1D-related song. His vocals are exceptional on this using that powerful voice over surprisingly soft choruses which work to great effect- looking forward to seeing this one live next year at the Manchester Arena! I Fell In Love With The Devil comes next at number 32 being a change in aesthetic for Avril (the gorgeous video did definitely assist in this being as high as it is) alongside a perfectly written breakup ballad using a production filled with strings and perfect percussion build-ups against her fantastic vocals on one of Avril’s all-time best for me. Finally is mega Selena comeback Lose You To Love Me- a song I was initially unsure on after how highly I thought of Revival, I thought this initially lacked a little and seemed an interesting single choice as Selena is hardly known for her strong vocals; upon further multiple listenings I realised how beautiful this song was using her vocals really incredibly to create that vulnerable sound and over such minimal production this really could have tanked big time so was brilliant to see this do so successfully on both sides of the pond!
