That Drake/Future thing is the kind of typical low-effort shit that always ends up being guaranteed to smash on Spotify. It's infuriating.

I suppose that explains why Future has such an expansive back catalogue of huge hits in the UK then :o :P

Anyways xx Very happy to see 'The Box' hitting #1 today (not least because this should hopefully finally be the end of Tones' endless run at #1), it's made such a huge amount of progress in the last week. Genuinely get the sense that it's been helped out a fair bit by the free publicity surrounding the battle between it and 'Yummy' for #1 in the US last week, in a manner pretty similar to how 'Old Town Road' first blew up in response to Billboard removing it from their country charts. Cue it spending 19 weeks at #1 in the US now as well :magic: An even more massive update for 'Life Is Good' today though, closing the gap to Roddy by over 30k since yesterday so wouldn't be surprised if that actually ends up overtaking and could yet block Roddy from reaching #1 overall.

'SUGAR' back to making slow progress again I see but hooray for it cracking the top 50!

was fearing a big climb for FutureDrake as it was added yesterday to HH

Future has had so many better songs, why this one with Rihanna did nothing? it's a million times better than Life is Good

Ugh The Box finally reached no1 and Future looks like he could outshine him going forward. Least we have new music pushing for next weeks no1!
The 2020 we don't deserve x

Truly. But are we surprised uninspired mediocre hip hop is doing well? No.

I think in fairness, you're comparing two very different release strategies. Life Is Good coming at the start of the year, primed to get attention as one of the first major releases of 2020, complete with Drake feature, memorable video and a novel song structure that warrants discussion. Selfish was released on the bottom end of an album that was released one week after another album that had its own huge hit in Mask Off that inevitably ate up the majority of Future attention. That and it's possible that Selfish probably doesn't make for a sufficient enough meeting point for anyone who would typically only listen to one of the two artists, so it has an uphill battle. Still, it has 200 million plays on Spotify which is not bad at all, and more than anything else on HNDRXX.

Halsey up to #51! All without any radio support or Hot Hits yet, think this could be her biggest hit from the era aside from 'Without Me' of course. I think it'll do really well in the US too due to it's more Country leaning style.

finally top 200!!!!

finally top 200!!!!

REALLY FINALLY!

I've never known someone so excited by a re-entry in the Spotify top 200. :D

I like The Box, one of the very rare songs of the genre that I've taken to in a big way in the last few years.

I don't get the Future/Drake mash-up at all. It sounds like two filler album interludes (from different albums/eras/artists/everything) badly segued together. What's the appeal?

the new Halsey has smash written all over it, hopefully will be top 10 in the near future

Tame Impala still floating around a week later :o maybe another charting single for them once the album's out (since ofc Hot Hits will never touch it)

Having heard the Tame Impala song now this one definitely sounds more like a "hit" (in as much as a Tame Impala song can ever be a hit) than the other singles from the album so not surprised it is showing a little more longevity, I hope it can at least give them a second top 100 hit (I thought it could have a chance of making it there this week but I see it wasn't there in the mids... maybe it would have if it was actually released on a Friday).

~

I like 'Life Is Good' so I'm not complaining at its success but I do have to say I don't think it really sounds any more like a big hit than any other Future song, even with the Drake attachment (not like any of Future and Drake's many previous collabs made anywhere near as much impact, although 'Jumpman' must have racked up a pretty decent number of residual streams even though it never went top 40 here). I think it just had a decent amount of hype leading up to its release because of excitement for a potential follow-up to 'What A Time To Be Alive' and now being aided by the meme-worthy music video keeping it in people's minds. There has to be something to it anyway, and not just it being a new Drake song as it's looking like it'll be a bigger hit than anything else Drake has been involved with for over a year. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
