Harriet Dart and Heather Watson both went out of the Australian Open as British interest in the singles ended in the second round on Thursday.

 

Dart, 23, battled hard against two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep, who needed a fourth match point to win 6-2 6-4 on Rod Laver Arena.

 

The Romanian fourth seed, a beaten finalist in 2018, fought off the late scare to win in 77 minutes.

 

Watson, 27, suffered a swift defeat by Belgium's 16th seed Elise Mertens.

 

British number two Watson, ranked 75th in the world, won only eight points in the second set as she lost 6-3 6-0 in just 56 minutes.

Coco Gauff stunned defending champion Naomi Osaka in straight sets to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open.

Coco was great against Osaka, well Osaka was terrible, you can see it in her face when she's gonna lose a game

 

also great to watch Muguruza today against Svitolina, never seen Muguruza play so well, if only she played always like that

I can't believe the stadium played '7 Nation Army' in between the two service points for Khachanov at 8-8 in the final set tie-break. It's fair enough to play music if they're changing ends at 3-3 or 6-6 but that was taking it too far.

Well,he lost the next two points. I don't think it had a big effect on him but it takes longer for the boisterous home crowd to settle down for the next point if they're being encourged to sing along to music.

I'm sure that would have never happened at Roland Garros or Wimbledon

Roger Federer defied age and logic once again to save seven match points before beating unseeded American Tennys Sandgren in a sensational Australian Open quarter-final.

 

He is the GOAT of all time for sure. Federer the greatest surely.

It's the impossible debate isn't it really. I think we'll only truly be able to properly compare when the big 3 have all retired. I really think the Djok will end up with most slams though when all is said and done.

The top seed made 2019 runner-up Kvitova pay for a host of missed chances in a 7-6 (8-6) 6-2 victory at the Australian Open.
