Top seed Karolina Pliskova was knocked out of the US Open in the second round with a heavy defeat by France's Caroline Garcia.

Pliskova, runner-up in 2016, lost 6-1 7-6 (7-2) to the world number 50.

Pliskova is terrible at Grand Slams

too bad Murray is gone now

Surprised she's never won a slam. Makes a complete mockery of the WTA rankings that someone who's never who a slam can ever be world #1.

Novak Djokovic moved comfortably into the US Open fourth round, beating Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets.

The 33-year-old Serb saw off the German 28th seed 6-3 6-3 6-1 in the night session on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Djokovic, seeking his 18th Grand Slam title, remains unbeaten in 2020 and has now extended his winning streak to 26.

But Greek fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas is out after blowing six match points against Borna Coric.

He was leading 5-1 in the fourth set but could not get over the line and Coric won six successive games to send the match into a deciding set which the Croatian won to complete a remarkable turnaround 6-7 (2-7) 6-4 4-6 7-5 7-6 (7-4).

Djokovic in this tournament is like if current Man City dropped down to the Championship for the season.

It certainly does at the moment with he is playing against the others. I don't see who will make that jump up to take on him in the future with also Nadal.
Thiem! I can see him beating Djokovic tbh
Djokovic out of the US Open by defaulting.

Smacking someone in the throat with a ball - disgraceful behaviour really - even if not deliberate.

I hope the lineswoman is all right after that incident. Disgusting incident and disgraceful behaviour.
Rules are rules and he can't really argue with the decision. The same thing happened to Tim Henman. The mens singles title is up for grabs now.
hopefully he learns from this and starts behaving like a grown up instead of a spoiled brat 99% of the time

Well that I certainly didn't see coming

I mean, the line judge went down like a football player there but yeah rules are rules so Djok can't really complain! It's super unlucky though, reminds me of the Shapovalov one, that ball goes an inch either side nothing happens... nowhere near as bad as that one nor the Nalbandian one which was more like full on assault.

Hollow victory for whoever takes it now but the literal chance of a lifetime too. Certainly makes it very interesting at least!

Second seed Dominic Thiem moved into the quarter-finals of the US Open with a comfortable win over Canada’s 15th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Auger-Aliassime, 20, beat Britain’s Andy Murray in round two but lost 7-6 (7-4) 6-1 6-1 against Thiem.

Thiem was great, he played on a different level

Serena was also great yesterday

I thought Serena was finished at 0-2 down in the final set but she came back well.

I know there are players missing, but Pironkova making the quarter-finals after not playing a match for three years suggests that the general standard of womens' tennis right now isn't very high.

Edited by King Rollo

It hasn't been high for years. It's literally a lottery who wins each tournament, it's seldom the supposed #1 rank. That's good in the sense that it's unpredictable (unlike the Men's Slams save for this one) but certainly reflective that the standards are lower.

nobody is very consistent in female players

even the #1 in the world can be beaten by absolutely anyone at any round in any tournament

which sure doesn't happen to Djokovich and all
