June 27, 20205 yr Author The winner of the 2020 PDC Summer Series Order of Merit will be rewarded with a place in this year’s Grand Slam of Darts. PDC competition has been suspended since mid-March due to the covid-19 pandemic but is set to resume in July with a series of behind closed doors events in Milton Keynes. It has been confirmed that next month’s five events at the Marshall Arena will count towards the PDC Order of Merit, the ProTour Order of Merit and the Summer Series Order of Merit. The PDC Summer Series will comprise the final five tournaments to count towards qualification for the Betfred World Matchplay, which will take place from July 18-26. The host venue for the World Matchplay and whether it is to be open to the public or held behind closed doors is yet to be confirmed. The Summer Series, from July 8-12, will see the sport’s stars return to competition in-person with five one-day Players Championship events.
July 1, 20204 yr Author The BDO has been in financial difficulties for a long time and next Thursday will be an important day. As the end could be nigh for their commercial arm British Darts Organization Enterprises Ltd. If the bankruptcy does indeed take place, chances are that the last BDO World Championship was played this past January. According to Live Darts, the organization had a loss of £468,000 in it’s last financial year, and that amount would only have risen after last year’s three major tournaments. The current problems apply to BDO Enterprises Ltd. which is the commercial branch of the organization, responsible for their major tournaments such as the World Championship and the World Masters.

July 13, 20204 yr Author With the PDC action returning with the PDC Summer Series this past weekend, the Order of Merit has had some changes with career highs for Krzysztof Ratajski and Glen Durrant in particular. Ratajski had a great week continuing his consistency on the Players Championship circuit going up £249,750 just ahead of Adrian Lewis who missed the final day. Durrant continued his rise and sits just behind Adrian Lewis now in 15th place with £247,000. Simon Whitlock fell down to 16th place after falling from 14th over the weekend. Chris Dobey increased his hold on the top 20 and is up to 19th. While Ryan Joyce with his title win went up to 42nd. Jose de Sousa is edging towards the top 50 ahead of his World Matchplay debut while there was also a rise for Matthew Edgar further up the top 64 to 60th after a good five days which was capped off with him defeating Gary Anderson.

August 18, 20204 yr Author Northern Ireland's Kyle McKinstry and Dutchman Wessel Nijman have been suspended by the Darts Regulation Authority over alleged match-fixing. The DRA says it was alerted to "suspicious betting" on games in which the two men played by the International Betting Integrity Association. The Professional Darts Players Association (PDPA) says McKinstry has indicated an intention to appeal. Nijman has accepted his charge, saying he made a "stupid mistake". The events in question, played online in April and May, were regulated by the DRA but were unconnected with the Professional Darts Corporation. Both 33-year-old McKinstry, ranked 99 in the PDC order of merit, and 20-year-old Nijman played on the PDC's Challenge Tour early in 2020 before the coronavirus pandemic severely affected the calendar.

October 13, 20204 yr Author Gerwyn Price moved to second in the world rankings as he claimed the World Grand Prix title by beating Dutch outsider Dirk van Duijvenbode 5-2. Price, 35, added the Grand Prix title to the World Series he won last month and his two Grand Slam crowns. Aubergine farm office worker Van Duijvenbode, 28, the first debutant to reach the final, was 2-0 and 4-1 down but had the highest finish with a 135. But Price settled the match in style in Coventry with a 102 checkout. It is his fourth title in as many weeks, following consecutive Players Championship successes in Germany and his win over Rob Cross in the World Series in Austria.

October 28, 20204 yr Author Wessel Nijman has been banned from darts for five years for breaching betting and anti-corruption rules. Half of the 20-year-old's ban will be suspended if he engages in player education and anti-corruption measures. Nijman, who was suspended in August after the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) was alerted to suspicious betting, "fully accepts" the decision. The case regarding Northern Ireland's Kyle McKinstry is ongoing. The International Betting Integrity Association alerted the DRA to betting on games in April and May in which Nijman and McKinstry, 33, played. Nijman admitted fixing his 4-0 defeat by David Evans on 14 May in the Modus Icons of Darts series, claiming at the time of his suspension that he had been "put under some pressure to lose a match".
