The 2010's might not be the decade that immediately comes to mind when someone says Busta Rhymes but he released two absolute killer singles that sit proud amongst the best in his discography in my opinion. Thank You is still to come but here we have 'Calm Down' whose parent album was finally released in October last year, 7 years after this was released as an intended single. This has some unfortunate lyrics from Eminem but is still an absolute classic Hip-Hop track. Full of samples, hard-snares and verses that go on and on with a total disregard for the hook.

After 3 Hip-Hop tracks of varying intensity and credibility, let's move on to some pop and the sultry, smooth 'Notice' by one of my all-time favourites Little Mix. I think this is one of the most underappreciated tracks in their whole discography. The 2nd chorus where it's just Jade & Leigh-Anne is heavenly and Perrie's bridge with the beat banging to accentuate each syllable just feels so massive.

2010 614 Doing It (Charli XCX ft Rita Ora)

2010 975 Girls (ft Cardi B, Bebe Rexha & Charli XCX)

This is just a solid pop tune from Rita. A massive high point in her career being released as her first single since the huge success of her debut album. It's a shame that the mess with Calvin stopped this from being the lead from Rita's 2nd album because it's so much stronger than the snooze-fests she eventually came back with. I have to be honest, I don't remember this ending up in my EOY top 10 in 2014.

From 2008-2014, Katy was releasing banger after banger and this was a fine example of that. A perfect song for the summer with the most Katy Perry music video imaginable. Snoop's verse is alright but it's all about the pure delight and energy Katy brings to the song.

Good section today with three UK #1 singles. And this one is easily amongst the best dance records of the decade. John Martin's are elevated by the production to create a masterpiece and the perfect way for Swedish House Mafia to bow out. Let's just ignore their recent comeback. This managed a week at #18 in the first ever edition of my chart in early 2013.

The Saturdays have always been a firm favourite on this website and while I was never an uber-fan, I did enjoy the majority of their songs. This was their most successful release in my chart although it would probably no longer be by go to Saturdays track from the decade. I would be more likely to be listening to All Fired Up or What About Us now but my love for this one at the time has earned it its place here. I think they've done well in the video with what appears to be a pretty limited budget. The outfits are great and they pull off the slightly awkward lightstick dancing well.

It's hard to rank the songs from the three years before I started compiling a chart but I for sure remember that I was jamming to this one around the time of my 12th birthday. It might not pack the same punch sans the expletive from the sampled Tupac quote from Juice but the radio edit is still a bit of a guilty pleasure. The raps are weak but it adds to the charm of this now dated hit.

I've been far too harsh ranking this one this low. This is an absolute gem of a song, from Chaos Chaos' haunting vocals, the witty and often too real references to a modern dystopia through sci-fi references and the absolute bat-shit video, this is a knock-out song from an artist who was at the top of his game at the time.

Released in the year where Fetty Wap was a popular rapper, this was a reggae-influenced summer jam that interpolates 1992 dancehall hit 'Flex' by Mad Cobra. This was huge in my chart at the time and probably deserves a higher placement but it's one of Fifth Harmony's hits I go back to the least and they still have so much more to come. Wikipedia credits Tory Lanez as a songwriter on this one which feels a bit random.

We might not have ever got The Fall Off but if this is anything to go by then it would have been a classic. The song comments on the stereotypes that younger rappers help portray and gives them some advice on how they should change in the future. The song is mostly aimed at Lil Pump who released an (awful) track called 'F**k J. Cole". The final line is a killer and in itself infinitely better than anything Pump has done in his whole career (even if I do have a soft spot for I Love It). The slightly awkward and condescending delivery is absolutely perfect for the track.

This is one of the more underrated minor hits of the 2010's decade. I'm not sure I've heard anything else Charles Hamilton has released but highly enunciated flows sound so smooth here. Reading about him, he appears to be someone who has gone through a lot of mental health struggles that have got in the way of his career which is a massive shame because he's clearly very talented. I don't listen to this super often but I frequently have lyrics from it popping up in my mind. Rita sounds pretty nice on the chorus too and compliments the verses well.

Watsky's music just defines a part of my life, specifically the early teen years and this is one of the ones from that time that holds up the best. The production is sneakily a bit of a banger and is what stands out most listening to the track now. His dancing in the video is giving me early Dua Lipa vibes

More from the excellent Black Panther soundtrack now and this was the big lead track for the film. Until the past couple of weeks, this was pretty much the last we had heard from Kendrick and his presence has been sorely missed. Although Sza is able to completely steal this track away from him with a beautiful chorus and heavenly verse that makes the track what it is.

Next up is the best 'British Single" of the year 2013 according to the following year's BRIT awards where a performance of this paired with Bastilee's Pompeii was released as a single. This is the best thing Rudimental (and Ella Eyre) have ever released as it was a very deserving #1 single where it beat out the forgettable #thatPower. It has a nice video too, telling the real-life story of actor and BMX-er Kurt Yaeger, but it's weird to watch YouTube on 360p in 2021.

2010 914 What Do You Mean (Skepta ft J Hus)

On to a even more recent BRIT award winner. J Hus won 'Best Male Solo Artist' at the most recent awards while the parent album for this song was nominated for the main prize. Must Be was the lead single and aside from a Daily Duppy, was his Hus's first release since his release from jail and was an instant top 10. The song is absolute banger with the 2nd verse with it hard-hitting second verse being the standout. It's has a fairly simple -tion rhyme scheme but it just carries on going and going and the constant stress at the end of each line really slaps.

Say what you like about Kanye, but he knows how to produce a track and paired up with Daft Punk, this was always going to be something special. This just sounds huge and is perfect to get you hyped. Although somebody needs to tell that they were Spartans in '300', not Romans. This was in a crazy 3-way battle in my chart with Jay-Z's 'Holy Grail' and Lana Del Rey's 'Summertime Sadness' where they changed positions each week and all got a week at the top. This ended up losing the war between the 3 as the other 2 are both still to come. Wikipedia has some odd facts about this release including that Billie Eilish claimed that it inspired her to release 'Bury A Friend' which I can kinda hear and that Mike Dean (not that one) said it was nearly left of the album for sounding "too much like a soccer song." I've got to admit, I can't hear much 3 Lions in it

Drake doesn't really rap like this anymore. This certainly sounds unpolished compared to the sing-songy, melodic flow he's adopted for nearly 10 years now but works with the slightly gritter, coming of age lyrics he spits in this song as a relative newcomer appearing next to some giants. Eminem completely steals the spotlight though and everyone knows it. Drake knows it, Kanye knows it, Wayne knows it. Em even cleverly references it in fall "like that feature where I stole the show, sorry if I took 'forever".

Juice Wrld's EOD History:

Juice Wrld introduced himself to the mainstream witht what has surely got to go down as the greatest song in the emo rap subgenre. This was unlucky to get stuck in my chart behind a new Ariana release (The Light Is Coming) which was always going to reach the top. This has ending up winning the longer battle with TLIC not making the EOD top 250. Despite the obvious misunderstanding of what lucid dreaming is (it's not sleep paralysis Juice), I think this is going to go down as one of the 2010's defining hits and much bigger than it's #10 peak would suggest. Rest in peace Juice, one of the most talented voices of a generation and gone way too soon.

If the Fifty Shades Of Grey movies were good for one thing (and only one thing) it was for bringing us this beauty. The Weeknd's music at the time was absolutely perfect fit with its highly explicit nature but still remaining so smooth with heavenly vocals. Unpopular opinion, but I much much prefer this R&B style of Weeknd versus the synthpop Weeknd who has dominated the charts over the past couple of years.
