A lot of Wretch's big hits now sound a tad dated but I think this one was actually ahead of its time and still sounds pretty fresh. If this was released a few years later, I feel like this would have been an even more substantial hit. Wretch is an incredibly talented lyricist, as shown with his numerous brilliant appearances on Fire in the Booth, but he never really shown it on his chart hits which have tended to be more commercial and basic, What separates this one is Shakka's strong contribution with and a the lively production,

There's not too much to say about this one. This is basic, but a massive bop. Bebe sounds great and the beat gets stuck in your head. Bebe never really had much solo success in my chart but I really surprisingly enjoyed (most of) her album this year and she will surely be picking up a couple more entries in the 20's equivalent in 10 years time. This is another example of a song winning the battle but losing the war as the track this kept off the top spot, Skepta & Jme's 'That's Not Me' is still to come in this countdown.

Drake absolutely dominated the music scene in the 2010's and, despite having one of the worst chart runs for a #1 in my chart, Passionfruit represents his highest position in this countdown. It's quite bold to start a song with a minute-long sample of a DJ talking during an unrelated set (actually DJ Moodymann in Manchester, 2010) but it works in creating the mood of the song and means you're already bopping along before you even hear Drake's voice. This is a great late-night song when you just need something to chill to. The More Life 'playlist' was easily one of my favourite projects from Drake with plenty of UK influence and interesting production. Certainly a lot better than the completely dull album he's released this year.

'Glory Days' is one of my favourite eras of any artist. Little Mix were absolutely killing it and they really felt like they could not put a foot wrong. Potentially, the only error was the inclusion of this piss-poor Kelly verse on the single mix. His whole verse is lazy and derivative (I've heard the pain/champagne bars a hundred times before) and performed with the charisma of 'Just Ham Tesco meal-deal. However, it was the version included in the brilliant Nashville-set music video so I ended up getting used to hearing that part. At least the girls show some genuine oomph, Leigh-Anne in particular stands out for me with some great vocals in the first pre-chorus. Hearing them perform it on the LM5 tour was a treat and reminiscing on that is getting me so excited to actually go to some concerts again next year, including Little Mix in April.

I had just celebrated my 13th birthday when this song started to get popular in the UK and doing this ten years on is weird because it leads to talking about songs like this that I haven't heard in years and bear no resemblance to my current tastes as someone now in my mid 20s. It's undeniable that I loved this song when I was 13. It felt so cool hearing 50 Cent, a massive favourite from my childhood, providing a verse for this young rapper. I certainly wasn't aware of Nu Shooz's 'I Can't Wait' so to me, this melody sounded completely fresh and original. Listening again, the chorus still bangs to be fair but the verses just feel a bit beginner, you can certainly tell it was written by someone so young. "When my album drops: sure as hell gonna sell' is an unfortunate lyric to hear back now. :lol: They say things go in circles and it must be true as 50 bagged another big comeback last year with another collaboration with another young artist (although this time in much more tragic circumstances) with 'The Woo' being a big hit in my charts. RIP to Pop Smoke and also to Nipsey Hussle who makes a cameo in Mann's video.

To Pimp a Butterfly is an album that is going to be remembered for a very long time and will surely go down as one of the most important of the 2010s. The lead single, 'i' was something special and gave Kendrick his first taste of the UK top 40 (outside of some lame features). However, I think with the incredibly funky 'King Kunta' he very nearly matched i's greatness. Even the song's title is fascinating referencing the famous slave character of Kunta Kinte from Roots but with the oxymoronic moniker of 'King' showing that while Kendrick feels that while he is the King of rap, he still feels the limitations of oppression. Like most of Kendrick's work, there is scope to analyse this song in minute detail but let's just instead focus on just how badass and cool this song sounds.

This is probably just about my favourite album track from Ari which is reflected in a very impressive 181 place finish. This is mainly due to that bridge that just elevates the song to a completely different level. When I went to the DWT, this was secretly the song I was most excited to hear Ari perform and it did not disappoint. So underrated in her discography.

The deliberate, stereotypical white girl TM accent just works for me. The track is knowing but potentially not knowing enough. It feels like it trying to take the piss but still trying a little too hard to go viral.

Watch The Throne is one of the classic albums of the 2010's and it full of top singles including this anarchic hit. The verses are both perfect representations of the two rappers personalities; Jay's is a thoughtful, philosophical study of religion while Kanye's says "[she] ... was rubbing the wood like Kiki Shepard". The production on this song is wild (literally) and uncomfortable and instantly puts you in a sense of unease as soon as the song begins. The chorus is a lot more blunt than Jay's verse but that just makes it all the more hard-hitting with it's existential questions really get you thinking.

I think the mixing is slightly off in this during the verses where the vocals are too low compared to the instrumental but all that does is make the track more intense.

Being the lead single from his debut album and coming off the back of 'Shut Up' making him a huge name, the hype was certainly here for this track and it duly became his 4th #1 in my charts. However, this hasn't held up as well as his other hits of the time for me, although I did enjoy singing along to it during Stormzy's recent gig in Liverpool after the 2 year delay.

Based on a wonderful sample of Otis Redding's version of 'Try a Little Tenderness', the song is just pure fun. Kanye shows why he is one of the best producers to ever grace hi-hop with a crazy beat while the pair swagger through the song with interconnected verses. Imagine how good a Watch The Throne 2 could be if they were both on this kind of form. This song pre-dated my charts but still managed to bag a top 5 peak a couple of years after it's release.

The Weeknd has embraced the poppier music in recent years to great success but, for me, this is a much better version of Blinding Light, both being produced by Max Martin. His vocals are quite MJ like in places and this feels like it could have easily smashed at the time if it was pushed.
