Interesting read and article from BBC Culture

BBC Culture

A great read, thanks for sharing. There were a few moments I rolled my eyes, but it's mostly agreeable and makes great points.

This part in particular made me smile:

When Gaga does something over-the-top and eye-catching, it’s easy to pinpoint the one or two other times in history someone has done something similar,” he says. By contrast, when an artist like Ed Sheeran performs a love song on his acoustic guitar, “it’s like so much we’ve heard and seen before, so people are less likely to compare him specifically to one moment or song or person”.

I don't really agree with the fact that this album is HUGELY important in defining whether she is here for the long-run etc. I think that's pretty much cemented now and she can do whatever she wants and has still earned her oats: just look at her awards catalogue!

Yes, I thought it was a good article.

RE the success of ARTPOP, true fans don't care how well an album does commercially.

ARTPOP may not have done as well as The Fame and Born This Way did, which apparently means the fans hated it lol - but that's the media for you.

ARTPOP is my favourite album, tied with BTW.

Apparently she was going to perform with Ariana!

It'll be worth the wait when they do eventually perform together and the world isn't in such a state! I can wait x

I hope they perform together at The Grammys, but I'm sure she'll capitalise on Elton's feature.

Late but LOVE that Grace Jones anecdote. What a queen!

When Grace Jones revealed in her no-holds-barred 2015 memoir that she had turned down several offers to collaborate with a contemporary pop star she called “Doris”, many commentators presumed she was referring to Gaga. “I don’t mind her dressing up, but when she started to dance like Madonna, almost immediately, copying someone else, it was like she had forgotten what it was about her that could be unique,” Jones wrote scathingly of “Doris”, whoever she may be.
