Posted March 11, 20205 yr The Results Welcome to the results of this (rather small) game of NMTBJ! I won't be starting for a little while so if you still want to submit some answers let me know and I can wait ^_^ Here is the clip to give you a little reminder:
March 11, 20205 yr Author #1. David Guetta ft. Zara Larsson - This One's For You MoHnffhBwqs 1: Correct: Riser, Mack, King Rollo 0: No Answer: Suedehead2 We kick off with a fairly well-known track and probably the most recent mainstream sporting hit, This One's For You. It was the Official Soundtrack of the 2016 Euros but of course stuck around for absolutely ages because the chart climate was awful back then oops. Three out of four getting this which is a good start!
March 11, 20205 yr Author #2. Samir & Viktor - Put Your Hands Up For Sverige (ft. Anis Don Demina) ZqR7_JZnjqg 0: some gaelic jolity Suedehead2 0: No Answer Mack, Riser, King Rollo I thought this one might be a bit more difficult but with only four entries this was very unlikely to get a correct answer as it's not that well known! It was a Swedish (surprise!) song for the 2018 World Cup, pretty much all in Swedish, but it was quite a tune with a fab drop as you've heard, sadly it's not Gaelic Suedey but I can see why, and if it was it would probably have been better guessed!
March 11, 20205 yr I thought it was Zara Larsson so I just put 'Zara Larsson football song' into the youtube search.
March 11, 20205 yr Author #3. Keida & Tian Winter - We Are the West Indies DhOK_cf5M34 0: Sean Kingston Mack 0: No Answer Riser, King Rollo, Suedehead The first non-football song, this is a cricket song representing, of course, the West Indies. Of course this is more well known for representing moi in the BJSC but clearly not well-known enough for anyone to remember it :kink:
March 11, 20205 yr Author #4. Jim Noir - Eanie Meany Hn7cUVhVQjY 0: No Answer Mack, Suedehead2, Riser, King Rollo I thought there might be the odd Jim Noir fan like me stumbling into this quiz but it was not to be :( This was one of his biggest successes and was used by Adidas as part of their 2006 World Cup promotion in case it sounds familiar!
March 11, 20205 yr Author #5. 10cc - Dreadlock Holiday fUNTk5xsxk4 1: Correct Mack, Suedehead2, King Rollo 0: Bob Marley? Riser I DON'T LIKE CRICKET... I LOVE IT! Continuing with the cricket-and-football theme we have 10cc with their funky little track Dreadlock Holiday. This is pretty well-known and gets three out of four, and I can totally see the Bob Marley confusion Jordan!
March 11, 20205 yr Author #6. Eric Clapton - Swing Low Sweet Chariot S1uW7vKuvn4 0: Bob Marley? Riser 0: No Answer Suedehead2, Mack, King Rollo Thought this might get a few correct responses! A song which has been around since the start of time and is also sung by many a rugby union fan (or so Wikipedia tells me). Also not Bob Marley sadly, although I get the similarity between this and the 10cc track.
March 11, 20205 yr Author #7. Hooverphonic - Visions _Pct46c3O94 0: No Answer Mack, King Rollo, Suedehead2, Riser Have you all forgotten the Sports Forum Song Contest that quickly?! This did relatively well in it as well, clearly not that memorable oops. Poor Mattias. (sporting connection = performed at the 2000 Euros if you were wondering)
March 11, 20205 yr Author #8. Celine Dion - The Power of the Dream ynJc0YZkA3k 0: Whitney Houston - One Moment In Time Mack 0: Sounds like a Whitney Houston intro,I don't think it's One Moment In Time but I'll guess that one as it's connected to sport King Rollo 0: No Answer Suedehead2, Riser I mean we did get some answers for this one, but the wrong answers :kink: Not Whitney sadly, but Celine. This was performed at the opening ceremony of the 1996 Olympics, if the thumbnail hadn't given that away already.
March 11, 20205 yr Author #9. Avicii - Broken Arrows V6iKSUoUN48 0.5: Avicii? Riser 0: No Answer Mack, Suedehead2, King Rollo Finally somebody gets some points! :cheer: This is probably the most tenuous link to sport in the whole things because the song isn't really about archery but the music video documents the rise of an American high jumper (presumably Dick Fosbury but with a different name here). This is why it pays off to guess!
March 11, 20205 yr Author #10. Declan McKenna - Brazil QHgh77iE6qc 1: Correct Riser 0: The La's- There She Goes Mack 0: I should get this one Suedehead2 0: No Answer King Rollo Another one with a correct answer, this only actually mentions football a few times but the whole song is a massive metaphor criticising the hosting of the World Cup in Brazil and the effect on the Brazilians as they hosted. And who doesn't love a bit of Declan? That's it for tonight guys, we'll recommence tomorrow evening!
March 12, 20205 yr Author #11. Walk Off the Earth – Taekwondo RJCvwslfIYI 0: Jason Derulo Mack 0: Kaiser Chiefs Suedehead2 0: No Answer King Rollo, Riser Another one with no correct responses, however this was another fairly tenuous link to sport, as I doubt the lyrics of this song really represent what the sport of Taekwondo is really about. Nevertheless Walk Off the Earth are a brilliant band so it was a pleasure to include them in this. It is sadly neither the Kaiser Chiefs nor Jason Derulo however the fact that one song can prompt both of these guesses is something.
March 12, 20205 yr Author #12. Yello – The Race Y4QbJRAWvRU 1: Correct Mack, King Rollo, Suedehead2 0: No Answer Riser This brought back a little bit of nostalgia for me as I was searching for potential songs to include in this as I loved it when it was little, my favourite song on the Eighties Mix CD my dad owned. It even has car sounds to help us know it’s about cars. This was Yello's highest charting hit in the UK.
March 12, 20205 yr Author #13. Faithless – Muhammad Ali XdBvluNI6xc 1: Correct King Rollo 0: Jamiroquai? Riser 0: No Answer Mack, Suedehead2 We've had a Lounge thread on songs naming other artists, but here's one naming a sportsperson! This is one of many charting hits by Faithless, named after the second greatest sportsperson of all time (according to Buzzjack) and peaked at #29 in the UK.
March 12, 20205 yr I recommend the full 13 minute extended version of The Race to anyone who only knows the single version.
March 12, 20205 yr Author #14. Rocky Dawuni - African Soccer Fever 1F_8j0Q6t1A 0: No Answer Mack, King Rollo, Riser, Suedehead2 I thought there might be some fellow FIFA fans taking part in this but alas no! This was the only distinctly football-related song on the soundtrack (barring Wavin' Flag of course but that would've been too easy ;) ) and was a remake of the Ghanaian artist's previous song 'African Reggae Fever' which was exactly the same but with the word 'reggae' instead of 'soccer'. It also samples a traditional African song at the start but I couldn't tell you which one sorry.
