Yeah, these are all way too recent to be this high, but at least they're all out now so hopefully the top 20 is a lot more representative of all time!
These recent songs have no place in the top 40. :gaycat:

Yeah, agreed. At the expense of sounding like Hadji, I almost think there should be a rule where only songs that are at least, say, 2 years old should be eligible in these polls.

I agree. Newer songs have the unfair advantage of evoking stronger reactions in people than songs that have been heard many times before.

I mean personally I've heard those newer songs on the list more than most of the others! But yes, most of them didn't deserve to be that high and glad the top 20 is mostly free for the classics!

Anywhere and bad guy finishing above Better Off Alone. Drop me out...

this actually. I don't mind new songs charting at all (mainly because there are some young users that just don't recognize oldies and no-one would force them to do know them)

24. Blur - Song 2

Average score - 7.184

Stopped by : R Kelly - I Believe I Can Fly

Top scores : 11 - Uls2000, 10 - marcinjaro,SamJudd,Jester,PeteFromLeeds,dandy*,coi,Dexton,Suedehead,Jade

Low scores : 2 - jszmiles, 3 - Alex!

With a length of two minutes and two seconds, this is certainly the shortest song in the final. Its working title was Song 2 as it was the second song on Blur's eponymous fifth album and that ended up being kept as the track's title.

Valerie was a top 10 single for The Zutons in 2006. The real Valerie that the song is about was last year revealed to be the celebrity makeup artist Valerie Star. Amy Winehouse's version from the following year was recorded for Mark Ronson's album of soul/funk cover versions of guitar based songs. It's her only top 5 single.

Good finish for Song 2, surprised that Valerie finished so high and not sure it deserved it!

The .NUXX version that we all know was the B side to the instrumental version of 'Born Slippy' which reached number 52 in 1995. It was re-released the following year after being used in the soundtrack to the film 'Trainspotting'. It is Underworld's only top 10 single.

I love Starboy didnt think it would be in-front of so many classics.
oh shame Born Slippy just missed top 20.... love to see my 11 pts in top 20 then! hooray

2 of my faves on the list just missing the top 20 there D: #21 is a fairly good position for Underworld though as it's not really the kind of song I'd expect to be universally loved by everyone.

The recency bias is definitely real here but to be fair I imagine the likes of 'Anywhere' and 'bad guy' would still have done similarly well if this poll was done a few years from now.

Weird that Valerie is her only top 5 hit and I've just learned that now.

I am sure majority and general public don't know it either and it really doesn't matter in the end because her name alone is that BIG that you would think she has many #1's on her name if that makes sense!!!!
