May 30, 20205 yr Ooh nice nomination for 'The Farewell' there. Such a lovely film. YAS at all the Chris Evans representation *.* (also you say "Nick Jonas 'acted' in Jumanji 2" - but I thought he was genuinely brilliant and got Colin Hanks' expressions down to a tea! aha) All those performances were indeed fab bar J Lo, who was "better than usual by her own standards" and that's all. Oops (but I agree scrap that category). I imagine (judging by your comment) Chris missed out on an acting nomination for it. That Ensemble list is great! Avengers (whether you love the franchise or hate it) was stellar! And I approve of all those newcomer noms! I can't choose between Ana or Florence, personally (although I love the rest too)... I'll probs swing my vote to Florence due to Ana appearing in Blade Runner 2049 a few years back
May 30, 20205 yr Author I'm down to do some more now if anyone's around! (Best Adaptation of a source material Best Script Best Director) Ooh nice nomination for 'The Farewell' there. I'll probs swing my vote to Florence due to Ana appearing in Blade Runner 2049 a few years back  I haven't seen Jumanji 2, I just used it as an excuse that buzzjack would nom Nick in this category even if he had like a 2 min cameo in one film released that year :kink: and yeah let's scrap that category after this year aha x I feel like I've known everyone in the newcomer category before 2019 (bar Elsie & Julia) but they all brokethrough for me in 2019 aha! I never saw Blade Runner and this was def Isabela's breakout year. and even though I nominate Florence and Kaitlyn in my acting categories before 2019 (Florence in lead actress for Lady Macbeth in 2017 and Kaitlyn in supporting actress for Short Term 12 in 2013), I hadn't seen either of those performances until last year!
May 30, 20205 yr Author BEST ADAPTATION OF A SOURCE MATERIAL Your nominees are... omg a category with just 5 nominees!! :o we have comic-book adaptations Captain Marvel and Joker, the disney Aladdin remake, the shining sequel Doctor Sleep and the 78th version of Little Women. My winner here is either LW or Aladdin, Gerwig's adaptation approached the novel in such a fresh and successful way and Aladdin really made the most of its source material *.* I'm shocked CM made it here over Avengers and Aladdin beat TS4!
May 30, 20205 yr Author BEST SCRIPT Your nominees are... and we are back to six nominees for the best script category *.* So glad Booksmart got in here, such a fantastic script that really deserved an Oscar nom (and was so close ugh) <3 the Knives Out script is also SFG and The Farewell & Toy Story 4 are beautiful and delicate scripts. As much as I love hustlers and joker, I'd say the script is amongst both films weaker aspects aha. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood really deserved a nom here, gutted it missed :( also surprised we didn't get more Oscar contenders here (like marriage story, us, the favourite - especially shocked how badly the latter did when this feels like the ideal category for it!) and that Endgame didn't get in as the marvel films usually do rly well here.
May 30, 20205 yr Author BEST DIRECTOR Your nominees are... Three  female  directions   7 nominees here again and a great directing category! Olivia Wilde getting in here is a shock and my fave shock, such a well deserved nominee, her direction of Booksmart is SO good and I can't believe its her first film! We also have fab nominees from Lulu Wang, Greta Gerwig, Yorgos Lanthimos and Todd Phillips & the Russos complete the very strong line-up! I'm shocked Tarantino and Johnson missed this, it just seems buzzjack weren't massive on Hollywood but Johnson's miss is shocking considering Knives Out's success so far!
May 30, 20205 yr Author I will do the big 4 acting categories + final two BP noms when ppl are around x
May 31, 20205 yr No Avengers: Endgame in Adapted Source Material? Lol FLUSH. Doctor Sleep is probably my fave adapted out of those though! As much as I enjoyed it, I probably wouldn't have put 'Aladdin' in there over Avengers, but it's ok. --- I'm not surprised to see Avengers miss script. Knives Out to win though! WHAT a script that was! --- Replace Yorgos for Johnson and that category would be PERFECT. Russos > everyone else for me (lololol obviously). Excited to see how these categories turn out!
June 2, 20205 yr Author BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS Your nominees are... the first of our acting categories and what a strong line-up!! This is basically a best of the real life Oscar nominees with the ones that just missed nominations. Jennifer Lopez's triumphant turn in Hustlers deserved a real life Oscar nom but I'm glad she made it here! Florence Pugh was the breakthrough of the big Little Women ensemble with her scene stealing turn as Amy March. Laura Dern won the Oscar for her performance as a divorce lawyer in Marriage Story. Zhao Shuzhen was a wonderful discovery in the wonderful The Farewell. and Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz are delivering turns up their with their career bests in The Favourite. I love all of these so much apart from Laura, who's good but idg how she got so much praise/swept everything based on that performance aha. J-Lo, Pugh & Stone are my top 3 of the year in this category. Zhao and Rachel just miss my top 5 for the year in this category but I adore them, they would've made it most years this decade but this year is exceptionally strong for best actress!! The only person who came close to cracking this line-up was Scarlett Johansson in avengers: endgame. Maybe she'll have better luck with lead actress for Black Widow this year? Otherwise this was a very runaway top six. Other actresses mentioned include: Oscar nominee Amy Adams for Vice, BAFTA nominee Margot Robbie for Once Upon a Time In Hollywoox and Oscar winner Regina King for If Beale Street Could Talk, I'm surprised the latter didn't do better here! Billie Lourd deserved better for Booksmart, one of my fave performances of the year and such a scene-stealing turn!
June 2, 20205 yr Author BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR Your nominees are... the way there's probs an argument for everyone in this category apart from REG to go lead :kink: (tho personally I'd only push 1 or 2 into lead). and we're getting a first time winner as nobody in this category has won a buzzjack Oscar before! Whilst supporting actress is a stronger category, this one does feel a bit more inspired!! Ofc with it being Endgame's big send-off, it manages to score two supporting actor noms as Robert Downey Jr's turn as Iron Man and Chris Evans' as Captain America both score nominations for the epic conclusion to this era of the franchise. This is Evans 3rd nominee for CA and Downey Jr's 2nd, with it being 11 years since his last nom for playing iron man! Can either get their first win? I'm surprised Richard E. Grant's acclaimed performance in Can You Ever Forgive Me got nominated despite him likely being the runner-up in the real life Oscars. A v. good turn. Oscar winner in this category in 2019, Mahershala Ali, also scores a nomination for his turn in Green Book, this is his first nomination at the buzzjack oscars! My fave thing here though by miles is Honey Boy overperforming out of nowhere and pulling off double supporting actor noms <3 Noah Jupe and Shia LaBeouf are both so f***ing good in this film and I'm so glad it got some of y'all attention for these noms to happen *.* It's LaBeouf's first nom finally, I would've easily nommed him about 3 times before this and Jupe's 2nd shock nom in a row! And rounding off this category is the most recent real life Oscar winner Brad Pitt for his star turn in Tarantino's 9th film and is probs the frontrunner here <3 I'm completely split between Pitt and LaBeouf for the win, both are my top 2 supporting actor turns of the year  Jupe is pretty close behind and I like the other 4 but none of them are amazing for me. This was a pretty close category! I'm surprised Evans made it for Avengers over his scene-stealing turn in Knives Out. Nicholas Hoult continues to be underrated for The Favourite. Oscar nominee Joe Pesci and nearly Oscar nominee Timothee Chalamet (for Beautiful Boy) were also close. And goose got a mention.. x
June 2, 20205 yr And all of those are solid supporting actor choices! LOVING the inspired Honey Boy noms! :o Noah Jupe is the Leo DiCapeio of this generation, I guarantee he's gonna be huge!
June 2, 20205 yr Author BEST ACTRESS Your nominees are... lol x whilst all the other acting categories we're really competitive for noms and all ended up with 6 or 7 nominees, this category was a done deal from the start with 5 performances WAY ahead of everyone else x We have a mix of Oscar winners, Oscar nominees, two horror performances; with one being v. close to an Oscar nominee and a Golden Globe winner who was snubbed at the Oscars. such a strong group <3 Scarlett Johansson is fab in Marriage Story and it was fab to see her finally gain traction irl <3 I'm glad she comfortably got in here as I did think she cold've been snubbed! Florence Pugh is fantastic in Midsommar and means she's a double nominee in the acting categories this year <3 Awkwafina is also excellent in The Farewell and looks set to make her a major star over the coming years *.* Olivia Colman is hilarious and heartbreaking in The Favourite and pulled off the shock Oscar win against all odds in real life, one of my fave shock wins in ages! and Lupita Nyong'o is fearless in a fantastic dual-turn in Us and I'm glad she slayed the critics last year. 5 excellent performances <3 Can Scarlett finally get a win on nomination number five?? Will Lupita get win #2 on her 3rd nom? or will one of the first time nominees pull off a win? My fave here is Florence as she's the only one that makes my personal top 5 aha (though Colman and Awkwafina both make my top 5 any other year this decade and Scarlett/Lupita would most years too). 2019 was such an insane year for excellent actress performances <3 Whilst nobody was ultra close to the top 5, quite a few performances received some attention! Melissa McCarthy's Oscar-nominated turn in Can You Ever Forgive Me unforuntately suffers from being in a stronger category compared to her co-star, Elsie Fisher got some notices for her breakthrough in Eighth Grade, Constance Wu couldn't ride the Hustlers love to a well deserved nom here, Oscar winner Renee Zellweger is surprisingly snubbed here as that performance is buzzjack catnip and I'm also surprised Saoirse Ronan misses once again for Little Women. In terms of performances that we're further away but still got mentioned; Kaitlyn Dever (my winner for the year) and Beanie Feldstein deserved better for Booksmart, both are FANTASTIC and are my top 2 <3 Regina Hall deserves so much more attention for Support The Girls, the film and her performance are outstanding, highly recommend (its on netflix)! I wish Jessie Buckley could've pulled off a shock nod here like she did at BAFTA's but alas I was her only voter for her star turn in Wild Rose <3 a few other names mentioned are more horror performances from Samara Weaving, Aisling Franciosi & Allison Williams and loads more people aha
June 2, 20205 yr Author Florence, Zhao, Emma & Rachel *.* The other 2 are strong but really overrated! at least we agree about Laura :kink: And all of those are solid supporting actor choices! LOVING the inspired Honey Boy noms! :o Noah Jupe is the Leo DiCapeio of this generation, I guarantee he's gonna be huge! DiCapeio *.* I agree though, I really feel he's gonna be such a massive star, he's such a good actor *.* same those Honey Boy noms shook me, I love it when we get random bursts of inspiration every couple years in the acting categories <3
June 2, 20205 yr Author BEST ACTOR Your nominees are... back to closer races with some clear-cut nominees and some that sneaked in Christian Bale deserved so much more love than he got for Ford v Ferrari irl! One of his best performances and I'm glad buzzjack recognised this *.* Oscar nominee Viggo Mortensen in Green Book makes it here, he's fine but I'm surprised he got the nom here in all honesty. Knives Out finally cracks an acting category for Daniel Craig's performance as the inspector, I rly thought Evans & De Armas would get noms so I'm glad at least one person from the cast got an individual nom (I just realised Ana got 0 mentions full stop oops). and then we have Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix for Joker who swept everything all season, Oscar nominee Adam Driver for Marriage Story as that film repeats all its real life acting Oscar nominations and Oscar nominee Leonardo DiCaprio for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, one of his best ever performances and really deserved more recognition in terms of wins :( we have three first time nominees (Mortensen, Craig, Driver) and two previous winners (Bale, who scores his first non-Batman related nom :o and 2x winner DiCaprio). However the frontrunner is probs Joaquin Phoenix, who's on his 4th nomination without a win yet! DiCaprio is easily my winner here. I find this performance so underrated tbh and honestly in his top 3 ever, he is fantastic in this!! Bale is a close runner-up and Phoenix also makes my lineup for the year. Craig/Driver are in my top 10 in this category and Viggo, nah. This category didn't inspire too many nominees aha. Ewan McGregor for Doctor Sleep and Oscar nominee Antonio Banderas for Pain & Glory were v. close to scoring noms, the former would've been such a shock nominee aha! Eddie Murphy deserved more attention for his fantastic turn in Dolemite Is My Name and I am shocked Taron Egerton didn't get in for Rocketman, that film really hasn't done well at these awards at all. Oscar nominees Jonathan Pryce and Christian Bale also received mentions for The Two Popes and Vice, thank f*** both missed x
June 2, 20205 yr Author BP NOMINEE #8 Your nominees are... off the back-off nominations in actress and director, Us had enough strength to crack the best picture line-up! I expected Lupita to get nommed but I didn't think the film would! a great film <3 Nominees in Best Picture so far: Avengers: Endgame Frozen II Joker Knives Out Midsommar The Farewell The Favourite Us 2 more to come. What are your predictions???
June 2, 20205 yr Author the two final BP nominees will come later tonight alongside voting opening! who will be the last two best picture noms, this is the lineup so far: Avengers: Endgame Frozen II Joker Knives Out Midsommar The Farewell The Favourite Us
June 2, 20205 yr Best actress is so strong. I dunno how I'm gonna pick. 'The Favourite' isn't a "favourite" (hahahehehahaho) of mine, but Olivia's performance was impeccable. But she's up against a Scarlett, Florence & Awkwafina highlight and one of the all time greatest horror performances in Lupita... AAAAHHHHH! SO happy Daniel Craig made it in for 'Knives Out' A great performance by him (I don't rate him usually, but this...) DiCaprio is strong, but not my fave of his. Solid-great performances by everyone though... actually pretty tough and I think it's one of the strongest years for that category we've had, right? 'Us' bagging that best film nom *.* Hustlers & Little Women are my last two predictions for best pic. But I wouldn't be surprised to see 'Booksmart' "surprise" and knock one of them out. But wait what about 'Toy Story 4'? Hmmmmm
June 3, 20205 yr Author BP NOMINEE #9 Your nominees are... Jonjo u forgot Buzzjack's fave type of best pic nom, the superhero film that scores only like 2 nominations elsewhere in minor categories but somehow manages to rack up enough support to make best picture!! (at least this did better than Thor: The Dark World and whatever that X-Men film was that got like 0 noms in total apart from best picture). Whilst I wouldn't put this anywhere near BP, it's def one of my fave Marvel films and is so much fun! Nominees in Best Picture so far: Avengers: Endgame Frozen II Joker Knives Out Midsommar Spider-Man: Far From Home The Farewell The Favourite Us 1 final nom to come!! who's it gonna be?
June 3, 20205 yr Author BP NOMINEE #10 Your nominees are... um. okay buzzjack?? this is such a random nom that I kinda like it for its utter randomness?!?! I wasn't massive on the film at all though and it's in my bottom 2 of the line-up oops. I'm just still confused how this managed to easily get into a field of 10?!?!?! I know it has fans but it was a box office bomb that went under the radar Nominees in Best Picture so far: Avengers: Endgame Doctor Sleep Frozen II Joker Knives Out Midsommar Spider-Man: Far From Home The Farewell The Favourite Us yep all my f***ing faves came joint 11th   I've done a bigger post underneath about the race!
