November 24, 200619 yr I really hope Westlife storm to No.1 on Sunday. I'm not a Westlife fan at all. I neither like nor hate them. But the pathetic response of the media (the Sun campaign etc...) to a band legitimately being more popular than all others is just sad. It reeks of an attempt at chart fixing and is contributing to the rapid death of the charts.
November 24, 200619 yr I dissagree. The Sun is for once doing the right thing. Sunday will be a sad day in British music, a bunch of glorified karaoke jokes beating off proper musicians with TALENT. Westlife are'nt a band. Bands are people who playh their own instrements and have actual talent. -_- What is contributing to the rapid death of the charts is people who buys such $h!te as Westlife. It would be fine if they actually had talent, wrote their own songs etc, but with this album its like they are taking the p*** out of their fans just to see how wether they will still buy into the whole scam. And Sadly they are. :( It is making an ever bigger mockery out of the charts! <_<
November 24, 200619 yr Music is music, whether it is written by the bands or just performed them. As it is, there are more people out there who want to own Westlifes album this week than way to own the Oasis one. And that is what the chart has always been about. It is not a chart of the Top 40 most talented acts. It is a chart of the Top 40 most popular acts. Even so, if I was an Oasis fan, I would consider the "hits" collection a slap in the face, missing many of their hits from it. Its not as if there wasn't space as each CD only has 9 tracks on it.
November 24, 200619 yr Gary Barlow actually has taste :o :P Take That wade into album war November 24, 2006 I’M delighted to report the Mancunian army is sticking together in the OASIS vs WESTLIFE album chart war. Fellow Manc GARY BARLOW has stepped forward to defend the honour of NOEL and LIAM GALLAGHER. After SIR ELTON JOHN waded in yesterday in support of the cheesy Irish crooners, I called upon Modfather PAUL WELLER to sort out this mess. Sadly the rock god failed to do so — perhaps he hadn’t read the paper after a heavy night of showbiz behaviour. But fear not, that fine songwriter Gary rallied to the cause. I caught up with the TAKE THAT star as the band performed material from new album Beautiful World at an exclusive Radio 2 session at London’s Abbey Road studios. The usually mild-mannered Gary told me: “I just don’t get the whole Westlife thing. I don’t understand who would go out and buy their records. “I haven’t got it and I won’t be buying it, but I have got the Oasis album. I’m definitely backing Oasis over them — I thought Oasis would storm it to No1 with their best of.†Latest midweek sales figures show Westlife’s Love album has now sold 129,000 copies compared to Oasis’ Stop The Clocks on 114,000. I called on Bizarre readers to go out in their thousands and buy the Oasis CD to help Stop The C*cks and prevent a serious miscarriage of justice in the pop charts. While many Westlife devotees disagree, I’m glad Gary, MARK OWEN, HOWARD, DONALD and JASON ORANGE have got taste. Mark told me: “I love Oasis, I think their songs are great.†While some will argue Take That are just a cheesy boyband like Westlife, I think there’s a huge difference — Gary wrote most of their original hits.
November 24, 200619 yr I'd hardly say it's an easy period.Christmas is the hardest period with so many releases. That's why Norah Jones waits until Jan 29th. I say easy because all new releases this year are old material, there no real huge superstar releasing. Why do you think Norah had to wait until next year? Don´t you think if her album was out now it would be EASILY outselling all competitors??? Still, a # 10 album this time of the year sells more then a chart topper in Jan/February. If Dido or Norah Jones had released now they would remain the entire season in the Top 3 which such low profile competition.
November 24, 200619 yr Even so, if I was an Oasis fan, I would consider the "hits" collection a slap in the face, missing many of their hits from it. Its not as if there wasn't space as each CD only has 9 tracks on it. It's not meant to be a Greatest hits. It's a collection of what they consider their best songs hence why so many non-singles are on it. I would like to have some of the songs missing eg. Whatever, however some of their biggeest hits that don't feature don't deserve to be on it IMO. Lyla and Go Let it out should be replaced why much better tune -_-
November 24, 200619 yr Pink #87 according to Loom at ChC. Disaster. It will be probably below 2 of her older singles... Anyway, it was stupid to release one single just a few weeks after the other.
