Oasis and Beatles struggling in race for Number One

Westlife take a lead in the UK album chart

Oasis's 'Best Of' collection 'Stop The Clocks' is being beaten by Westlife's 'The Love Album' in the battle for the Number One position on the album chart.

The so called 'Super Monday' (November 20) included big albums released from The Beatles, Jay-Z, Foo Fighters and U2, but according to HMV's Gennaro Castaldo the race is being won by Westlife.

"At the moment Westlife are 14,000 sales ahead of Oasis. It's between those two at the moment," he told NME.COM.

"People don't rush out to buy 'Best Of's, which Oasis, The Beatles (whose 'LOVE' LP is actually a 'mash up' of their best-known songs) and U2 all have out at the moment. Westlife are benefiting from having a studio album out which people feel they have to get hold of on the week of release."

"Westlife are likely to be Number One on Sunday (November 26) in the album chart, which is quite a coup for them."

is it top 40 only or does this mean there is nothing new in the bottom half?

A Girl Like Me sold about 120k, and Free Me sold about the same, and Emma WAS dropped from Virgin, as were all of the solo Spice Girls. She's great and I really like her, but there's no chance in hell she has a large fanbase or anywhere near enough to make her a long lasting success. I predict Life In Mono will scrape Top40 and then drop like a stone, never to be seen again, and that's coming from an Emma fan.

Oh and she's a dead cert for Top5, I think she's safe at #2 actually.

I know Free Me sold 131k from the last figure I saw of it. Wow, AGLM really did do bad. :o

#1 westlife 102.6k

#2 Oasis 87.7

#3 Beatles 69.6k

#4 u2 35.7k

i still think oasis have a slight chance depends on saturday sales.

Well what a load of c**p.

Who wants Westlife's album :(?

Old people I'm thinking, conned they have been -_-

I have noticed that Girls Aloud and Razorlight could be poised to re-enter the Top 10. Another slow week in the Top 40 other than the Top 2?

Beatles sold well. their sales are increasing, westlife sold 66.000 the first day and 36.000 the second. Westlife are gonna end up hopefully nearly 200.000, while oasis and beatles around 150.000
Ah, I think that by the end of the week we could have Akon up to 2 as the CIN promotion dies down!
