At number 15 we have the hit single from X Factor winner, Leona. Happy wasn't their first time collaborating, there were 2 other occasions which have both appeared higher in this rate! This was her big comeback single coming off the back of one of the most successful eras for a solo British female, of ALL time. Ryan Tedder's profile had been considerably lifted since he worked with her on the 'Spirit' album. A prime time slot on the biggest entertainment show that launched her as the star she is... so to see this got beat out by Black Eyed Peas (who also performed on the same show!) and peak at #2 with only "good" longevity... it was a bit of a "WTF?" moment. It's a shame coz it's a stunning song, but the album had stronger single choices so I think it just felt a bit "Wash. Rinse. Repeat" with 'Happy', as Syco tried to replicate what they had with 'Bleeding Love', I think. This song ranks about middle of 'Echo' for me (one of my favourite albums).

#14 we see Birdy's huge hit Wings. It received a sole score of -1, but everyone else was liking it, with no other score below a 6. An absolute beauty of a song and a song I've only recently (as in the last year or so) come around to. It initially went on to do "ok" in the charts, but I think it's use on a talent show is what propelled it to a #8 peak and gave it more longevity in the charts. I'm really hoping a similar thing will happen with Gabrielle Aplin's 'My Mistake' tbh. But we'll see :lol: Gorgeous song anyway and deserving of it's top 15 placing here.

At #13 is a OneRepublic song that I figured was more popular than it's chart run suggested. Secrets is one of those anthemic, adult-contemporary pop ballad songs. The type he usually saves for the big pop girls, but this time he kept it for himself and his band. This deserved to do MUCH better in the UK charts. It failed to go top 75, but I feel like it's one of their signature hits. I think it's used on a lot of big TV shows etc.. as a soundbed. Another one of their songs where if I choose to listen to it, I will only listen to it with the volume on full.

The next 2 to be eliminated in this rate is a funny turn of events. At 12 it is Beyoncé's mega smash hit single Halo and #11 is the carbon copy version of 'Halo' (and the considerably smaller hit)... Already Gone by Kelly Clarkson. So before Kelly & Ryan worked on 'Already Gone', Tedder had written & worked on 'Halo' which was released on Bey's 'Sasha Fierce' album. Kelly heard 'Halo' and confronted Tedder about how alike the two songs were and was understandably worried that everyone would have thought she'd copied Bey and went to the trouble of requesting for AG to be removed from the album, but the album was being pressed by that point and they couldn't make any changes to the tracklist - she went one step further and tried to push for 'Cry' to be a single over this, but the label ultimately wanted AG.

SUCH a mess. Two beautiful songs, but Bey's leaves me feeling a bit cold and hollow, despite me being able to enjoy it. Kelly's AG though took my breath away. It was the song that I wished 'Halo' to be. It feels like it has more emotion and soul to it. Tedder also went on record to say he actually prefers AG anyway... so win/win! But it's really humorous to me that these both finished one place apart and very similar averages looool.

The top 10 is...

Apologize (Timbaland feat. OneRepublic) {3}

Battlefield (Jordin Sparks) {11}

Bleeding Love (Leona Lewis) {1}

Counting Stars (OneRepublic) {1}

Ghost (Ella Henderson) {1}

Got 2 Luv U (Sean Paul feat. Alexis Jordan) {11}

Rumour Has It (Adele) {85}

Stop And Stare (OneRepublic) {4}

Take A Bow (Leona Lewis) {97}

Turning Tables (Adele) {62}

So 3 Tedder tracks manage to make the top 10! Which one will finish the highest and can it go on and surprise over some huge Buzzjack favourites like 'Ghost', 'Rumour Has It', 'Bleeding Love'... etc..?

Im stunned Halo is already out! Really thought that could’ve won overall despite me not liking it much.

XO was the best Beyoncé track here. Happy Already Gone is ahead of Halo as it’s essentially a better song of the same song :lol:

So happy Stop and Stare is still to come as well! Probably my favourite Ryan Tedder track where he’s singing the vocals.

Got 2 Luv U out next pls.

That top 10 has to be one of the strongest I've seen on this site. :o :clap:

Shame 'Happy' misses the top 10. I'll always have a soft spot for the song as it was released around the time my brother passed. I do get how it can be viewed as a diluted Bleeding Love but I've always preferred it. :heart: Plus the video is Leona's best imo. :D I completely get what you mean with Halo leaving you cold and hollow. It's a beautifully written song but I don't feel emotional listening to it which is kinda weird. :unsure: Already Gone OTOH is divine. :wub: For some reason I always think of Ronnie's daughter Danielle dying in EE whenever I listen to it. :lol: It's like the perfect soundtrack to that storyline lol.

I get that comment re Halo too.

I think it’s more Beyoncé can technically sing very well but she doesn’t really show emotion when she sings (to me) where as Kelly in Already Gone you can feel the emotion more even if she isn’t technically as strong.

YES!! I agree with everything you said Jordan. Although I don't know if Beyonce is technically stronger than Kelly. Regardless, I much prefer Kelly as a vocalist. Already Gone's chart run in the UK is DISGUSTING. Like wtf. 2 weeks in the top 75?

Already Gone could’ve been a #1 had it been performed on X Factor in 2009 live shows.

Even now if it was performed by someone on BGT I think it could get a sales resurgence it’s one of Kelly’s all time best. Really should’ve been pushed as a single earlier in the campaign tbh. I think it was like a long running top 10 hit on my personal chart at the time.

Already Gone ahead of Halo, that's great :D

That top 10 is really strong bar Stop & Stare and Got 2 Luv U.

Wings and Already Gone would be much better company in top 10 with the rest of the sngs!

Take a Bow FTWWW

If it was pushed after 'My Life...' it would've been released at the same time as 'Halo'. :lol: It definitely screams "covered on a talent show" tbh. B-)

They messed up the minute they decided 'I Do Not Hook Up' was the perfect single choice to follow up MLWSWY, imo. It should have been:

MLWSWY

Don't Let Me Stop You

AG

If I Can't Have You

Cry

---

So pleased to see 'Stop & Stare' in the top 10 though :wub: Great song.

I did well in deciding to include 'Secrets', 'Rumour Has It' & 'Take A Bow' in the rate, despite them missing the top 75!

Impossible wasn't Tedder was it? :lol:

FWIW I wish the Kelly singles run went:

1. My Life Would Suck Without You

2. Cry

3. If I Can't Have You

4. Already Gone

5. Long Shot

He was talking about 'Impossible' from Kelly's album :P

'Long Shot' :wub: WHAT A SONG <3

Ideally this is how I'd rank the top 10

Stop And Stare (OneRepublic) {4}

Rumour Has It (Adele) {85}

Counting Stars (OneRepublic) {1}

Apologize (Timbaland feat. OneRepublic) {3}

I can see a Top 3 of Bleeding Love, Ghost, and Counting Stars though

ONEREPUBLIC - COUNTING STARS [8.07]

UK T75 CHART RUN: 43-30-20-17-13-2-4-3-1-3-1-3-5-6-11-12-16-17-19-22-10-10-13-14-17-24-23-26-34-36-32-30-22-19-30-42-44-45-50-51-58-49-50-53-57-59-70-61-50-43-42-54-51-51-62-63-63-66-74-59R(6)-68R(6)-70R(2)-54-67->64 Weeks

Highest: Infludexton*, Nick F1 & Mack. 🐠 (10) + Scene & Cameron 🐠 (09)

Lowest: Hauspital* (04)

At number 10 is OneRepublic and their biggest hit Counting Stars. I was ecstatic that this was looking likely to give them a UK #1 and a monster WW hit, despite personally thinking they've had better. Seeing it become the huge hit it was, was amazing to see and it was finally nice to see Tedder rewarded with the hit he deserved after doing so much for the big pop girls before this. This truly felt like it was their 'Moves Like Jagger' moment and bring them back from a period of underwhelming hits. The difference being that Maroon 5's success still remains fully in tact </3

Just the one score below 5 as everyone else had rated this a 6 or higher! Unfortunately though, no one loved it enough to give it their 11.

Apologize and Stop and Stare being the top 2 tracks where Ryan’s also the vocalist is very welcome to see.

I was thinking Counting stars may have been his highest due to it being a monster hit.

Counting Stars is such a tune. The melody of it is insanely catchy!

Predictions for top 9:

1. Ghost (Ella Henderson)

2. Bleeding Love (Leona Lewis)

3. Battlefield (Jordin Sparks)

4. Rumour Has It (Adele)

5. Take A Bow (Leona Lewis)

6. Turning Tables (Adele)

7. Apologize (Timbaland feat. OneRepublic)

8. Got 2 Luv U (Sean Paul feat. Alexis Jordan)

9. Stop And Stare (OneRepublic)
