April 26, 20205 yr Author Dexton's Chart becomes 3 years old in May! Let's discuss a big artist in my chart to commemorate: Now seems as good a time as any: let's talk about The Killers! A long-time favourite band of mine who returned to the scene after a significant break in 2017 with a huge song that should have actually have been huge chartwise, The Man. Sampling Kool & the Gang's Spirit of the Boogie as well as David Bowie's Fame the band wrote this song with their own history in mind and is much a reflection on their past compared to where they are today. The Man debuted at #4 on my chart before spending a week at #1 and before it had even left my Top 5 the follow up single Run For Cover entered at #3!. Whilst it didn't manage a higher peak Run For Cover did spend 12 weeks within my Top 20 (a feat which is kind of rare these days unless you're a big name) and out-lasted the next single, Rut, on my chart! Rut became yet another hit for the band reaching #11. Other singles Christmas In L.A and A Great Big Sled charted over the Christmas period following the release of their album Wonderful Wonderful which spent 26 weeks in my Top 10. Later in 2018 a cover of Elton John's Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters debuted at #10 and became their third Top 10 hit. They wouldn't be seen again however until 2020 (yes this year) when they released Caution for their upcoming album Imploding the Mirage. A cautionary tale for releasing alongside Tones and I who's Bad Child entered at the top, this time the band 'only' hit a #2 peak. Caution features a guitar solo from Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham. They are also a favourite of mine, just an fyi :lol: Seven weeks later Caution is still in the Top 20 (perhaps on it's way to beating Run For Cover's record) and this week their next single Fire In Bone enters at #4. Only other new entries of interest to me this week are Lauv (it's an alright song, nowhere near as good as Tattoos), Hayley Williams (quite like that one) and Tiesto/Becky (not a bad little song, hope it can give Becky another hit!) It's a third week for Break My Heart for both of us :D
