Mad how Drake can literally fart any old song out and it's a hit instantly but a female artist can put out a music video, endless promotion and craft/creativity into her music and she can be lucky to debut top 200 lmao.

It's interesting because if you look at the "monthly listener" count on Spotify, artists like Pop Smoke who have huge streaming debuts might not actually have more than 20 million of them. Yet for instance Gaga has 50 million and opens with worse numbers.

 

I think it's just the rapidness of the fanbase?

I think there is an element of sexism and people not wanting to listen to female artists as well. The charts are more male dominated than ever and I'm so bored.

That is more combination of hip hop being dominant in the US + most hip hop artists are male, not sexism per se.

 

Granted, I read that it's examined that men listen to mainly male artists but actually women listen to male artists more than female ones as well even though they are generally more equal.

I think it's more music style than being male/female

If it's a rap it's a hit, it it's pop it's a flop

there's great pop songs by males also flopping like the new James Bay which is all kinds of amazing

but it's flopping cos it's not rap, not cos male/female imho

Dance is also doing well as a genre and there are not single one female producers having hits, which is super sad too. Glad females are usually credited as singers at least.

That's because unfortunately there's barely any (prominent) female dance producers altogether, it's even more male dominated than hip hop (although females are popular choices for guest vocalists)

it's surprising how much is DJ Khaled/Drake-Popstar underperforming

considering it's #1 on so many Spotify playlists, #1 on Today's Top Hits, #1 on Rap Caviar, added to HH too

I think it’s because Greece seems to be going down a lot better with people. If it were the song at the top of all the playlists it would likely be top 2 or 3 just now

Good to see Headie One x Drake now #2 on AM.

 

UK rap does better on AM but it's looking good for them to go top 10 on Spotify tomorrow, possibly top 5.

'Only You Freestyle' knocked 'POPSTAR' out of the top 10 so it's still only 2 :magic: :kink:

 

I've not listened to this song yet but it's really no surprise that it's got off to a good start, this is a massive and historic moment for UK drill. It's not just another random Drake song.
