League Two strugglers Southend United have sacked manager Mark Molesley and replaced him with former boss Phil Brown.

Southend are currently 23rd in the table and five points off safety with six games of the season remaining.

Former Weymouth boss Molesley was appointed in the summer after the club's relegation to the fourth tier.

Southend United live to fight another day with their 2-1 win vs Leyton Orient. Barrow got beat in their game so it goes into the final two games.

If they are relegated it will be the first time they haven’t been in the EFL in 101 years.

Grimsby Town have dropped back into the National League after five seasons in the EFL.

And Cheltenham have gone in the opposite direction. They have been a very strong side at this level recently. I remember a few seasons ago when they were (along with Morecambe, another surprise package) dicing with relegation.

As for Carlisle, think we will need a goal difference swing as well as results to go our way to get into the play-offs. That COVID break earlier this year broke our momentum sadly. More positive news, a few players have had contract extensions activated recently.

Very sad to see Saarfend go down :( They were my grandfather's team and would have been mine if I had based my allegiance on where I was born. They become yet another team to lose their league place thanks to a dreadful owner.
They are out of the Football League for the first time in 101 years!

Southend were the last team I saw Carlisle play in a match some years ago and I had a few trips down there with my late dad.

Carlisle are definitely out of the running for promotion play-offs after the results yesterday. Bring on next season.

Cheltenham Town win the league, both Cambridge United and Bolton Wanderers have been promoted to League One. It will be Morecambe, Newport County, Forest Green Rovers and Tranmere Rovers in the playoffs.

Sad for Morecambe as they have never been in the third tier before. Not many form teams in the playoffs with Newport and Forest Green both playing poorly. Great to see Salford miss out with all their riches it’ll ground the Class of 92 to not get instant promotion each year.

Great season for Paul Mullin and Wes Hoolahan the former with 32 league goals and Wes winning player of the year at 38 years Young. Shamrock Rovers should be doing everything in their power to bring him back to Dublin!! Well done Cheltenham too another small club in the third tier for the first time in over a decade. Not so happy about Bolton, they will be a powerhouse in that division given their history and expect them to move further up the leagues eventually.

Morecambe could end up in the third tier if they get through the play-offs. They have a manager who has done it before (Derek Adams).

Was hoping for a Carlisle win so we could end on a bang, not to be. Hope they warm up their shooting boots for next season, a lack of goals is not what I want to see.
