Ariana-Santa Tell Me is not new at all, it's been charting every year for a decade now... and it's track #3 on Christmas Hits, so it's also gonna be the 3rd highest Xmas song...

I totally didn't realise 2014 was a whole decade ago!

It's not quite a decade old but having one or two songs from the current decade amongst all the same old songs (as has been the case for the last few years) is hardly a sign that new Christmas songs are drowning out the older ones, it's actually very much the opposite.

There’s other factors at play but the likes of ‘White Christmas’ don’t do nearly as well.

Ariana was the third highest streamed song on Spotify this weekend behind Wham and Mariah. But this happened last year too and she slowed as we moved into December.

 

Santa Tell Me is arguably the best performing original Christmas song to be released this century. One modern classic being at the third position while the rest of the songs are old classics isn’t indicative of a shift towards old classics fading. If anything with the help of streaming these songs have been revived and immortalized.

Taylor isn't being pushed there at all (it's not even on Christmas Pop on apple when songs like Night Changes, Take Me Home & Up are on there), idk about the others!

Maybe irrelevancy is a bit strong but there’s def been a change in the streaming and download eras and it’s a lot to do with the changing demographics etc too not just positions on a Spotify playlist

Not in the past though. For me iTunes still shows popularity of a song especially if it stays in the top 10 for a period albeit I understand there’s a generation who never have used it and are growing up with spotify
