Posted November 3, 20204 yr 1st November 2020 It's Perfectly Untrue and fab Lucia & her fab Best Boys presiding over an unheard-of domination of my top 10 by 3 acts: to feature your name has to begin with an "L" or else be John Lennon, Kylie Minogue or Paloma Faith. Paloma has a new album track out, Last Night On Earth rocketing up 80 places to 8, as last week's chart-topper is Falling Down to 3 thanks to some Gold-digging entering at 2 - Paloma Faith's new single (I presume, as there's a fab video), giving her 3 simultaneous top 10's, 4 tracks charting off the album, and it's not even out yet. Kylie's not far behind, and the same applies, only 3 tracks so far though, 2 of them top 10 this week, and all 3 also top 10's with a chart-topper. New in at 12 with a boom, it's The Avalanches returning with their first top 20 since 2001, and third in total, aided and assisted by a sample of the great 80's Eye In The Sky hook from Alan Parsons Project. New Order grab another top 40, too many to count since 1981, and Dubstar add to their more modest run over 25 years or so. Dua Lipa gets yet another Future Nostalgia track into my list - at least the 6th, not counting remixes! Yvonne Elliman's fab 1979 Love Pains finally charts, having missed-out at the time due to 1979 being probably the best and busiest pop chart freaking year ever, and I didn't think to expand my charts to 100 (as I do now as needed) to include every song I like. Plus it got no radio airplay at all at the time. Also from '79, The Specials brilliant debut, Gangsters, is back. Bright Light Bright Light has a swift return with a newie, bringing along Andy Bell of Erasure for his 3rd of the year, AC/DC unexpectedly dropped a new single from a new album, just when it seemed it was all over, and enter with Shot In The Dark, and a first new chart entry for at least 25 years, and extends their run to over 40 years and then some. Singer Brian Johnson was charting in 1972 for me, Don't Do That kicking off a run of 5 singles for his band Geordie. So 48 years then! But that's nothing! Dame Shirley Bassey brings a track off her finale (?) album in as well, still with sass in her 80's, her first chart entry in 6 years, her chart-run extending to 50 years, but actually it should really be 56 years as I loved Goldfinger as a kid & my dad had her albums in those pre-charting 60's days. Finally, due to halloween a 1974 chart-topper for me (flop otherwise) pops in to welcome Thunderthighs back - they had a hit with Lynsey De Paul's Central Park Arrest, and did the sha la la la push push on Mott The Hoople's Roll Away The Stone and the do do do-dee-do's on Lou Reed's Walk On The Wild Side. Great video too. Mind you, this week I am literally-obsessed with around 10 tracks that could all be challenging for a top spot in a normal week. That's bad news for Kylie & Paloma, competing against themselves and each other! Very happy to see you got Yvonne through, I still love her, she topped my charts in 1976 and 1978 with Bee Gees tracks, and if she'd qualified 2 or 3 Jesus Christ Superstar tracks would also have done it! :)
