In just a handful of years, the sharp-tongued New Yorker went from viral Instagram phenom to one of hip-hop’s most exciting voices, establishing herself as a bossed-up feminist icon along the way. Born Belcalis Almanzar in the South Bronx in 1992, Cardi got a job as a stripper at 19, quickly building a social media following—in addition to her devotees at the club—for her viral videos and hilarious catchphrases. In 2015, she scored a spot on VH1’s drama-filled reality show Love & Hip Hop: New York, where her brash personality turned her into an immediate fan favourite among her more established costars. That same over-the-top charisma made Cardi a natural fit for rap dominance; witty, unfiltered and totally fearless, her early tracks doubled as mantras for self-made women who put themselves first. But it was “Bodak Yellow” that launched Cardi into superstardom; a trap anthem that rang out from cars and clubs throughout 2017, it begging you to shout along. Her 2018 debut album, Invasion of Privacy, fused the Latin music of her childhood with hardcore New York hustlers' anthems, and squashed any doubts as to whether Cardi was here to stay. Meanwhile, her scene-stealing guest verses span the pop charts, from Bruno Mars (“Finesse [Remix]”) to Ozuna (“La Modelo”) to Maroon 5 (“Girls Like You”). Not bad for a self-proclaimed regular girl from The Bronx. - iTunes Top 100 Chart History Cardi B 2017 24 Bodak Yellow -1- 2017 49 MotorSport (Migos, Nicki Minaj & Cardi B) 2017 45 No Limit (G-Eazy feat. November 6, 20205 yr 29 | 29 | 10th week Rudimental featuring Anne-Marie and Tion Wayne Come Over 3rd single from fourth studio album Released: 28th August 2020 Label: Warner Records UK Chart Statistics NE (10/09/2020) | 62-57-46-32-29-29-28-26-29-29 Sales: 90k+ Certification: - Status: Standard Chart Ratio 18 Sales 45 Audio Streaming __ Video Streaming Video Ypok2L5aWiA Biography The London-based electronic outfit Rudimental originally started out in 2009 as the production duo Piers Agget and Kesi Dryden. Years later, they made their debut as artists with their U.K. number one single "Feel the Love." Agget's DJ'ing brought him into contact with DJ Locksmith, who joined the pair, followed later by a chance meeting with Amir Amor at a studio in Hoxton, London. Rudimental's first release, 2011's dancehall-inspired "Deep in the Valley," appeared on garage, grime, and dubstep label Black Butter and was quickly followed by "Speeding" and "Spoons." Picked up by Asylum Records/Warner Music off the back of their first few singles, 2012 saw the release of the drum'n'bass roller "Feel the Love." Championed by Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1, the single reached the top of the U.K. charts the same weekend as the four-piece played on their home turf at the Radio 1 2012 Hackney Weekender. In 2013, Rudimental's debut album Home arrived. Working with some of the U.K.'s finest talent, including the voice of 2012 Emeli Sandé, the album's mix of dubstep, R&B, house, and drum'n'bass received positive reviews and went straight to the number one spot on the U.K. album chart. Hit singles from the album continued into 2014, including the U.K. number one "Waiting All Night," which won a BRIT Award for Best British Single. Rudimental scored another big hit in 2015 with the Ed Sheeran collaboration "Bloodstream," and geared up for the release of their second full-length, We the Generation, which included collaborations with Dizzee Rascal, Anne-Marie, MNEK, Lianne La Havas, Bobby Womack, and several others. The second Sheeran feature on the album, "Lay It All on Me," became the duo's first U.S.-charting song and their eighth U.K. Top 40 track. The song also went platinum in Australia, Denmark, Italy, New Zealand, and the U.K. They closed 2017 by recruiting James Arthur for the single "Sun Comes Up." The following year, Rudimental issued a handful of high-profile collaborations, including "Let Me Live" with Major Lazer, Anne-Marie, and Mr. Eazi; "Walk Alone" with Tom Walker; "Summer Love" with Rita Ora; and the multi-platinum, chart-topping "These Days" with Jess Glynne, Macklemore, and Dan Caplen. These singles all appeared on their third full-length release, Toast to Our Differences, which landed in early 2019. - iTunes Top 100 Chart History Rudimental 2012 01 Feel The Love (feat. Following two initial EPs, she gained widespread viral buzz with her song "Stupid," featuring Yung Baby Tate, off 2019's Hi It's Me. Born Ashton Nicole Casey in 1996 in Oak Ridge, North Carolina, Ashnikko grew up in Greensboro. She discovered rap around age 11, listening to M.I.A. In her teens she lived in both Estonia and Latvia, where her father was working. It was during this period that she began making her own music, influenced by artists like Nicki Minaj, Björk, and other artists. In 2017, she released a digital EP, the Raf Riley-produced Sass Pancakes, which included the track "Krokodil." A second EP, Unlikeable, followed in 2018 and included the song "No Brainer." In 2019, Ashnikko returned with the five-track EP Hi It's Me, which featured the song "Stupid" with Yung Baby Tate. The track and video went viral on several platforms, helping it reach number one on both the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart and Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop chart. That same year, she toured with Danny Brown. Moving into solo work during the late 2010s, the rapper found his biggest success to date with 2019 mixtape Music X Road, which landed at fifth place on the U.K. album charts. Rising from the remnants of North London gang Tottenham Mandem, rap collective Star Gang soon became a hotspot of talent for the North London rap scene, most notably Tottenham's Headie One (born Irving Adjei) and RV. From day one, the duo's synergy on the mike was evident. Working under Star Gang through the early 2010s, the two released early singles like "Youngers from Farm," shifting between more traditional U.K. rap and U.S.-inspired trap for early mixtapes Headz or Tails (Headie One, 2014) and Sticks & Stones (Headie One & RV, 2016). Moving fully into the U.K.'s drill scene, the pair released third mixtape Drillers & Trappers the following year. It was here that the pair truly made their mark: working with producers like MKThePlug and M1OnTheBeat, the duo quickly built a following with their relentless flows and artistic synergy. Marking their singles with the tag #OFB, the duo soon founded drill collective Original Farm Boys, an homage to the Broadwater Farm Estate where they grew up. Headie continued through the late 2010s with a series of individual releases. His second solo mixtape, The One (2018), produced some of his biggest hits to date, with "Golden Boot" and "Know Better" soon becoming drill staples. After closing out 2018 with third tape The One Two, Headie kicked off 2019 with the long-awaited sequel to Drillers & Trappers, enlisting RV's help for 13-track set Drillers X Trappers II. Heralded by Top 10-charting single "18Hunna," the rapper's fourth tape, Music X Road, arrived later that year; with features including Skepta, Dave, and NAV, the tape pushed Headie's brand of drill into new, inventive directions. A strong working relationship with producer Fred Again produced the late-2019 single "Charades," before the duo linked up in early 2020 for experimental mixtape GANG. - iTunes Top 100 Chart History Headie One 2018 84 Missing (Belly Squad feat. Yeah, sure. But they were also there to see Mendes perform, share his feelings, bare his soul. “When you’re writing something super-honest and about people you care about and things you’ve been through, the last thing you want to do is re-live upsetting experiences,” Mendes told Apple’s Music around the release of his 2018 self-titled album. “But that’s the music that travels and connects with people.” And therein lies the rub. Soulful but soft, wholesome without sounding like he’s hiding something, Mendes is the rare artist who has managed to find audiences in both the teen-pop and adult-contemporary set, blending singer-songwriter conventions with the lighter sides of R&B and dance music, bucking trends in part by ignoring them to begin with. Born in the Toronto suburbs in August 1998 (a Leo—confident and optimistic), Mendes started out by uploading six-second covers of pop songs onto the video-sharing service Vine. Like Justin Bieber on YouTube before him, he navigated the leap from covers to original material, from making content to forging a career, modelling himself on the sound of artists, like John Mayer and Ed Sheeran—superstars whose charm lies, in part, in how un-super they seem. Within a couple of years, he released his first album, Handwritten. Success was huge and immediate. Illuminate arrived in 2016, followed by Shawn Mendes in 2018, marking transitions toward adult themes—anxiety, sexuality—without shedding the brightness or earnestness that made him appealing to begin with. “The hardest thing in the world is to wake up in the morning and be, like, ‘Today I’m me, regardless of how big of a song “Stitches” was,’” Mendes told Apple Music, referring to his 2015 breakthrough single. “The best way to do it is to ignore that and take your step forward in what you think sounds amazing. And that’s kind of all you can do.” - iTunes Top 100 Chart History 2014 99 Life Of The Party -1- 2014 09 Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart) (The Vamps feat. Many of the singer/songwriter's early recordings illustrate the pop/rock and hip-hop influences that helped shape his unique voice and style. Before he appeared on The X Factor, Arthur made it into the final 200 contestants of the U.K.'s The Voice TV series in 2011, without managing to progress any further. A year later, he auditioned for The X Factor, where he sang judge Tulisa Contostavlos' song "Young" and subsequently made it through the boot-camp round and into the live shows. From then on, Arthur showcased his considerable talents and slowly improved under the watchful eye of mentor Nicole Sherzinger. He was pitted against Jahméne Douglas and Christopher Maloney in the final round of the contest, where he impressed the audience with performances of Cy Grant's "Feeling Good," Bob Dylan's "Make You Feel My Love," and Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On." The final song of the evening -- the version of Shontelle's "Impossible" -- was released immediately after Arthur was announced as the winner and made it to number one in the U.K. and Ireland, while also charting across Europe. He then went on tour with the X Factor show, playing across the U.K. in huge, sold-out arenas such as Wembley and the Birmingham LG. After his X Factor success, Arthur worked alongside singer/songwriter Labrinth and Graham Stack (JLS, Take That, Westlife) in preparation for his debut album. He put out the eponymous release later that year; the album featured "Impossible" and "Roses" (with Emeli Sandé), as well as follow-up singles "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You," "Recovery," and "Get Down." Arthur departed from Syco Music the following year and briefly returned to the scene with an independent release, the rap mixtape All the World's a Stage. The singer/songwriter made a return in 2016, signing a record deal with Columbia and issuing his second full-length effort, Back from the Edge. The stripped-down and reflective record was led by the singles "Say You Won't Let Go" and "Remember Who I Was." The next year, he was featured on Rudimental's "Sun Comes Up" and issued his own solo single, "Naked." Arthur released a string of singles in 2018, including "Rewrite the Stars," a duet with Anne-Marie that was featured on The Greatest Showman: Reimagined. - iTunes Top 100 Chart History 2012 01 Impossible -1- MILLION SELLER 2013 02 You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You -2- 2013 97 Wrecking Ball (Alonzo Holt feat. November 6, 20205 yr This Sean Mendes track is turgid for me - designed to sound epic when it isn't. I feel similarly about the current Bieber offerings. I think that’s my issue with the song.
