It certainly looks like we'll be beating last year's 30/61 this Christmas. The only question now is will we get 35+ and 75+?

Interesting to see the comparisons with last year with Lily Allen for example not in there and others only REs on the week after Xmas while they are top 100 easily this year already!

Seems that Radio 2 is boycotting The Pogues this year. Hasn't been played since 1st Dec and most other big Xmas songs have been played a few times each. As far as I can see, no Cliff Xmas song's been played either.

They have the current Cliff song on the playlist do they not so it’s not like they are supporting him.

I just want to see Feliz Navidad make the top 40. It looks like that's a distinct possibility this year!

Anyway, I'm going to predict the 21-25 and 51-60 brackets. Should be slightly less than last year because of the timing, but still a big year for Christmas songs.

 

'River' will be just about wholly reliant on Alexa again this year, it's still not on Spotify/AM and if they do add it, it probably won't be playlisted. Predicting top 20 for it due to its lack of ACR status (provided Amazon haven't dropped it entirely this year), but probably not much better than that given Alexa's main focus this year will probably be on a different song(s).

 

Mariah of course has very little chance of making #1 this year, given LadBaby or another charity single is almost certainly this year's Christmas #1. Her best chance would be the week before and I just don't see it, unless as rumoured she does release a Ariana Grande/Jennifer Hudson duet version and if there isn't significant competition.

Well I was pretty much right in my first paragraph, albeit we had 26 songs top 40 which was one more than the first bracket I went for.

'River' underperformed big time, only making it to #69 thanks to Amazon clearly not giving it any sort of real push this year and it still not being on other platforms.

I was right about LadBaby being Christmas #1, but Mariah of course went to #1 beforehand (which I did end up predicting about a month after writing this post).

Actually forgot ‘Cosy Little Christmas’ was still on SCR so kinda thought it would be higher - is it still into Amazon? I actually thought ‘River’ has done well considering it’s Amazon only though. To chart again. Also lovely to see ‘Snowman’ in the top 100 to give Sia a second hit from the album, Mariah and could only wish!!
