I had high hopes for that game and it certainly didn’t disappoint. That was a cracker of a match.

I can’t believe that the Netherlands actually appointed De Boer as manager.

Right? If that's not a recipe for disaster I don't know what is.

Mind you Belgium have the bang average Martinez at the helm and are doing rather OK (though have never been in with a serious chance of winning anything as of yet).

Yeh Martinez will get results for the Red Devils but dont see him providing that extra thats needed to finally break their duct and win a major trophy.

De Boer is a strange one indeed - hes never really cut it at any club as a manager. Seems to have got the job because of his status in Dutch football. Turkey are a very good young side though and will challenge to qualify from that group.

It took 14 minutes for England to break the deadlock with Ward-Prowse scoring.

Could be 8-0 already - missed some easy chances.

But San Marino had a corner!

Definitely need some extra shooting practice tomorrow. They've had the opportunities to have scored double figures already.

Matchday 1

I know it’s meaningless after 1 game where 5 times haven’t even played yet but here is how qualification looks at this stage. It would be interesting if it ends this way

The 10 group winners will qualify automatically and the 10 runners up will join the 2 best Nations League group winners that haven’t already qualified to make the 12 teams in the play-offs. An extra 3 will qualify through the play-offs.

Qualified:

Bosnia & Herzegovina

Czech Republic

Denmark

England

Germany

Norway

Russia*

Serbia

Sweden

Switzerland

Play-Offs:

Albania

Austria

Belgium

Greece

Finland

France

Italy

Portugal

Romania

Slovenia

Spain

Turkey

*Russia are actually banned from the 2022 World Cup but can apparently play as a team of independents.

England looked ok tonight, despite what the media tell us I still feel our squad lacks a little. I think lack of experience on the big stage will catch us out eventually, But deary me the quality of international football is lacking right now. Struggle to see how we're favourites for the Euros for example.

Anyway on a different note, very hard to read in tonights game. I can see why Southgate was so keen to bring Bellingham in - that lad has talent. He is going to be some player.
