January 13, 20214 yr what about Meat Loaf ‘s ‘I’d do anything for love’, i recall it was 12 minutes.. Good one. There's a single version that is 7:52 and a radio edit of 5:25. I seem to have the one that is 7:52. There are some versions of the single that have the edit but not clear from Discogs whether they were available in the UK or just mainland Europe.

January 13, 20214 yr length wasn't an issue in the 70's and 80's as daytime radio DJ's tended to just fade records down and talk over them anyway, and vinyl singles were often split into part 1 and part 2, especially dance tracks, for long songs (A side/B side). Steve Wright still talks over songs. Very annoying. Bo Rap tended be more of an exception due to its structure. Until 1978, the chart show was basically hour long and 20 tracks were compressed into it, including chart rundown, plus a show beforehand that played new entries into the top 30 along with other stuff. So records were rarely played in full except on specialist evening shows and the like.

At the weekly playlist meeting of producers and DJ's, Doreen Davis, the Executive producer, said it was too long and wouldn't be a hit. Kenny Everett disagreed and played it on his Saturday show. The switchboards lit up and the rest is history.

From what I recall, there were two cd singles at the time; one had the 7:52 version and one had the 5:25 radio edit. That said, I think the cassette and 7" both had the 7:52 version so I'd say that was the lead version as such.
