Mariano Vivanco Photoshoot ~ 6th February 2011

Mariano Vivanco did a photoshoot with Gaga for Billboard and i-D.

The iconic photoshoot saw Gaga donning the prosthetics that became synonymous with the era. Have a look at some of the images from the photoshoot below:

Born This Way lyrics teased and eventually released on social media

Days before the single dropped, Gaga started posting lyrics from the song on social media.

"Are you ready for the full lyrics?! Can we trend #bornthiswaylyrics!? It has been in my heart for over a year. I'm so excited to share it," she tweeted. "It's #1 worldwide! That was fast! You're so radical! Here you [go]Monsters, this one's for you."

She tweeted out the song credits as well. The song was written and co-produced by Gaga. Fernando Garibay and DJ White Shadow also got co-production credits on the track, off her May album of the same name.

The memories.

When the full lyrics were posted, I remember reading them late at night in bed alone and weeping. I read them, re-read them and could not stop myself from crying. The entire build up was so intense for me as my love for her was sky-high and I followed every single move she made on social media. My memories are so vivid of this moment!

The lyrics still to this day tear me up :snif:

Gaga reveals that the single is coming 2 days before initially planned

@34642346565963776

Originally slated for a Sunday release, Gaga instead moved it to a Friday. Do you remember this happening? How was your hype building at this stage?

I was quite annoyed about the Friday release and still am because it denied her the #1 in the UK :gaga: But it meant she had phenomenal sales in the US and the 1000th #1 on the Hot 100 so that was a positive. Also can't take away how massive the single was at the time so the #1 isn't the be all and end all x
I wasn't bothered by missing the UK #1 at all at first, but it was annoying that it couldn't climb to #1 on its 2nd week. It smashed so hard in the US though, so it was all good.

What are your thoughts on the single cover artwork 10 years on?

One of her best single artworks for me now? A pure VISION / grotesque, yet beautiful and mesmerising. Shocking and eye-catching and pure A R T <3

It was all about letting all the fans have the song at the same time because it was ultimately a song for the fans :( (the way the fans would've preferred to wait 2 days to get the #1 though )
Good thing I wasn't crazy about charts and stuff at that time, bcuz I would have had a syncope with this wrong move.

It was a bit of a mess for its chart position tbh. We also had the Brits which gave the other songs a big boost meaning they overtook BTW that had its sales split over two weeks. And the huge iTunes sales on the Friday and Saturday were effectively gone to waste in terms of its chart position :(

Those photoshoots are absolutely stunning. I've never really had a problem with the BTW album cover in the same way most fans do, but seeing those shoots it really does make you question the thought process at the time.

I was big into the charts in 2011 so the way 'Born This Way' was released really bugged me. The on air / on sale release strategy was already causing issues at the time and the midweek releases for Gaga's singles this era put her at even more of a disadvantage.

And the huge iTunes sales on the Friday and Saturday were effectively gone to waste in terms of its chart position :(

The way that BMG still does this with Kylie though
