It's a big climb to the top spot for Perry Farrell, a song for our times, his first chart entry, but UNKLE's 3rd - they first charted with Ian Brown in 1999, and went top 3 in 2017 with Looking For The Rain, but finally get a chart-topper 22 years on. Highest new entry is total classic 1967 vintage Monkees: Daydream Believer would have certainly topped my chart in 1967 had I been charting then, and did top my chart (on Monkees EP's) in 1980 and 1989, and hit 2 in 2012, and even without an original-run it still has enough chart-points to be amongst my very biggest chart hits. The latest is due to a key moment in Disney/Marvel's Wandavision: the song is essentially telling what is going on in the plot. 53 years on, still love it, and it's still relevant to pop culture. The Monkees were brilliant, and last charted with new material 2 years ago.

 

Dua Lipa gets the Boys Will Be Boys album track into the top 10, I make that the 6th off Future Nostalgia, and her 13th in total. Country singer Morgan Waller shoots up to 12 with the gorgeous 7 Summers, Jubel rockets up top 20 with a Weekend Vibe, and London Grammar get a 6th top 20 in 8 years of charting. Melanie C makes it 4 in a row top 40's over the last 8 months or so, and her 16th outside the Spice Girls. Texas also go top 40, pushing 30 times now, and over 30 times including solo Sharleen Spiteri.

 

Steps are on 14 top 40's, and highest new track is from Just Kiddin', while other newies include some Spanish language tracks, including two featuring already-charting Javiera Mena, I've been digging around her back catalogue, and also doing some Youtube Learn Spanish videos so I can pronounce the lyrics a bit, and understand a bit more than basic phrases. Yo soy comico! Tu eres guapo! Dos cervesas por favor! Weezer are back with a big old ballad over 25 years since their debut Buddy Holly, and 3 years since they topped my charts belatedly with Feels Like Summer. Other 90's chart returnees include Faithless, 00's Chase & Status, and 10's Ed Sheeran.

Daydream Believer is back again due to Wandavision featuring it in a key moment. It's at least it's 4th top 5 appearance! It would have been 5th if I'd been charting when I was 9 years old :lol:

 

Real Groove and Willow, oops! Yes I am a monster :lol: Both are still good but I've overdosed on them cos Radio 2 is on in the background while I work or do computer stuff and they play them both a few times every day! Other tracks they don't play I only hear once or twice a week at most, so they stay fresher :)

 

Wasted Energy is a fab dub reggae groove, very different from her previous stuff!

 

I agree about Mel C, so consistently good in 2020 - she needs more appreciation :dance:

Perry Farrell/UNKLE at #1 :cheer: An example of a song that really gre on me throughout the contest, a brilliant piece of music from both artists.

 

Some more great BJSC entries popping up in VNV Nation and Just Kiddin (the latter jusst missed my votes unfortunately), Afterglow and Regardless are two of the best songs in the chart right now so great to see them show up!
