February 20, 20214 yr 1 Don't Play (love) 2 Wellerman (enjoy way more than I feel I should) 3 Get Out My Head (fun bop) 4 Goosebumps (dece) 5 Paradise (okay) 6 The Business (no) 7 Friday (second hand embarrassment)
February 20, 20214 yr Author GREAT 1 The Business GOOD 2 Don’t Play 3 Goosebumps 4 Friday OKAY 5 Get Out My Head 6 Paradise MEH 7 Wellerman (remix)Â
February 20, 20214 yr personally, most of these aren’t actually big faves of mine but mostly cos my taste is moving away somewhat from the generic mainstream hits - I do really enjoy The Business though, a catchy and original song. 'The Business' doesn't feel very original when it's sharing the Top 10 with 'Paradise' and 'Goosebumps'. They all sound pretty alike to me.
February 20, 20214 yr 'The Business' doesn't feel very original when it's sharing the Top 10 with 'Paradise' and 'Goosebumps'. They all sound pretty alike to me. Agreed! 'The Business' and 'Goosebumps' sound like the same song to me :lol:Â There's so much better dance music out there and these songs are really scraping the bottom of the barrel imo (I do ironically love 'Get Out My Head' and 'Friday' though)
February 20, 20214 yr Yeah, I find them all catchy but most are very lowest-common-denominator. Probably not the best representation of dance for this "7 songs in the Top 10" achievement.
February 20, 20214 yr I don't mind 'The Business' but 'original' is definitely not the word for it lmao. It manages to somehow sound like it's just another pitched cover a la 'Ride It' even though it's not actually a cover at all.
February 20, 20214 yr Author I meant original in the sense that it's not a cover or sample! I can see how it sounds rather similar to other recent dance hits, but it feels more well thought out than the other house tracks in the top 10.
February 21, 20214 yr Sadly I would not call one of the seven tracks proper dance. They've all got an element of cheese in it. Looking For Me however is a song I would class as a real no nonsense dance track.
February 21, 20214 yr Goosebumps, The Business and Paradise are great and zero cheesy lol I like it that Tiesto has not used any gimmicks, no cover, no sample, no feature artists If only it was Bicep-Apricots in the top 10 though
February 21, 20214 yr Dermot Kennedy's natural voice in Paradise resembles the DJ starter pack pitch shifted deep male vocals that features in Goosebumps, The Business, 9PM and other recent dance hits like Ride It and Breaking Me. Seems to be the winning formula for a dance song to take off on TikTok (and subsequently the charts) at the moment!
February 21, 20214 yr Dermot's vocals on Paradise, particularly for the chorus, don't sound like the vocals on those other examples do they?
February 21, 20214 yr Author is it TikTok that's responsible for these dance songs taking off though? it seems to me dance songs are not so much reliant on TikTok as they are the good old fashioned way of songs getting popular I.e. playlist inclusion. Wellerman and Friday of course being the exceptions, but they only got remixed after going viral on TikTok (and "Friday" was nothing but just Mufasa & Hypeman shouting over the Nightcrawlers track before Riton took advantage for a hit). and yes Dermot's voice I wouldn't classify alongside the obviously vocal processed deep voices of Breaking Me, The Business, Ride It..
February 21, 20214 yr Dermot's vocals on Paradise, particularly for the chorus, don't sound like the vocals on those other examples do they? His lower vocal in the verses do imo!
February 21, 20214 yr Today we learned that dance songs aren't 'proper dance songs' unless zenon likes them x
February 21, 20214 yr Goosebumps, The Business and Paradise are great and zero cheesy lol I like it that Tiesto has not used any gimmicks, no cover, no sample, no feature artists Only because he chose not to credit the vocalist
February 21, 20214 yr I meant no big name as vocalist cannot even remember who is singing but it's someone I've never heard before

Seems to be the winning formula for a dance song to take off on TikTok (and subsequently the charts) at the moment! None has been a hit due to TikTok All have been hits cos after ignoring them initially HH has supported them like crazy, Paradise and Get Out My Head all have been #1 for ages on HH, and now it's Tiesto time
