December 21, 200619 yr Author 045 Raconteurs "Steady, As She Goes" (UK Chart Position - 04) Settle for a girl and buckle down, send it to the crowd that's gathered round... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/2/2e/Raconteurs.jpg/250px-Raconteurs.jpg 9ZYQr3Ivg6w I can't say I've ever been a fan of the White Stripes and when I heard Jack White was doing a side project it wasn't something I was overly bothered about. But I heard this song and thought it was excellent right from first listen. It reached number one on my Personal Chart when released but I did go off ir largely in the summer. However, after not hearing ir for a while this has regrown on me recently and finishes 42 places lower than his other band did with "Blue Orchid" last year!
December 21, 200619 yr Author 044 Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! "In This Home On Ice" (UK Chart Position - 68) "How now did you see what I did see?", the ravaged cabbage drifts on dark red skies, and it looks so nice, gee it looks so nice http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/ab/Clapyourhandspromo.jpg/220px-Clapyourhandspromo.jpg wxyqn7mqmQg The only entry from one of the most hotly tipped bands for 2006. Unfortunately they never actually bothered to prove why they were hotly tipped and only released the album in January and two singles, of which atleast one was limited edition. Alec's voice certainly isn't one that many people will immediately love but give it time and it certainly can grow, but they're certainly not a band I would be surprised at people not liking. As far as I can tell there isn't a video for it but I included a live performance...
December 21, 200619 yr Author 043 The Futureheads "Worry About It Later" (UK Chart Position - 52) Never to return, because one turn is enough, two sides of the same coin, but it's the bad luck stuff.... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/f/f0/Futureheads2006.jpg/250px-Futureheads2006.jpg 6aZQtfkoII8 One of the standout tracks on their second album "News And Tributes". It's a superb pop song which really could've been a mainstream radio hit but wasn't to be... I thought that the lead single "Skip To The End" was quite weak and probably their worst (or least good) single. This only reached number 52 in the chart which I thought was awful :( They've since split with their record label and claimed themselves to be "the happiest they;ve ever been" so hopefully a new deal and a new, superb album for next year!
December 21, 200619 yr Author 042 Graham Coxon "Standing On My Own Again" (UK Chart Position - 20) Now whats happening to me, why cant i ever see? I'm gonna let you leave without a sound... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/0a/Tender_4.jpg/300px-Tender_4.jpg nk6v6JYZ_OA I love Graham Coxon. He's made many a great pop song with his guitar. This, his comeback single from early in the year, was no exception. An instantly catchy song with easy-to-remember lyrics. What more can you want? I always thought he was the best member of Blur but it's Damon that's had the success since Blur. Not that Gorillaz and The Good, The Bad & The Queen aren't both fabulous. Infact, he's still to appear...
December 21, 200619 yr Author 041 Howling Bells "Setting Sun" (UK Chart Position - 114) Haters will love in time, and lovers will feel their crime... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/91/Howlingbells.JPG XbBepI5FVgo The first of 6 songs in a row with a female lead vocal. This may get a few :manson:'s at how low this actually is but almost top 40 is rather fantastic. I doubt I'd ever have been introduced to it if I hadn't have seen quite a few people on forums praising it! And I'm extremely glad that I downloaded it to see what the fuss is about. The next single "Low Happening" which I believe is a re-release is also marvellous and it wouldn't surprise me at all if it was in my End-Of-Year chart next year! Oh, and FIT SINGER
December 21, 200619 yr Author 040 Nelly Furtado "All Good Things (Come To An End)" (UK Chart Position - 04) The dogs were whistling a new tune, barking at the new moon, hoping it would come soon... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/1/10/Nelly_Furtado_000128293.jpg/220px-Nelly_Furtado_000128293.jpg O4U8jZpP0D4 One of the pop singles of the year. A fantastic ballad-y type song that sees Nelly going back to the Nelly that broke through to the main stream rather than $h!t, urban Nelly. I've never heard the album but may have to as I do love both this and Maneater.
December 21, 200619 yr Author 039 The Organ "Brother" (UK Chart Position - 112) Here we go, theyre back again, look alive, warn your friends... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/09/Organ_20042.jpg iUQp1CAhfvU Can't remember how I discovered this but may have been through XFM. An excellent song by a band who can be argued sound like Interpol, Blondie, The Cure and The Smiths all in one. What's not to love?! I didn't realise they were all girls, just thought that it was a female singer!
December 21, 200619 yr Author 038 Robots In Disguise "Turn It Up" (UK Chart Position - 141) I dress up bright tonight and needing the beat, dance into the speakers and max up the volume... http://www.robotsindisguise.co.uk/gifs/s_RIDPressTIU.jpg RfJXFDAKqys More indie dance here. Should've been much bigger really. I've seen people talk about them before so they can't be that obscure. I know it got a bit of play on XFM... Haven't heard anything by them since so I presume that they may have given up. Oh well...
December 21, 200619 yr Author 037 Rogue Traders "Voodoo Child" (UK Chart Position - 03) Why don't you tell me my future? Why don't I sell you my soul?... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/f/fa/B000gcf96w01ss500sclzzzzzzzv65.jpg/220px-B000gcf96w01ss500sclzzzzzzzv65.jpg KhCz5MCvJrg I loved this right from first listen. It's probably not something I would normally like but for some reason it's excellent. It's one of the best uses of a sample I've heard in a long time. I know that the singer is from Neighbours but that's always meant nothing to me as it's $h!t. Everything else I've heard by them has been quite rubbish. One Hit Wonders... More later. The site's become sticky and slow :(
December 21, 200619 yr Some more amazing tracks in there. Highlights for me; Snow Patrol (should have been a bit, higher but 'meh'), The View, The Futureheads, Muse and The Feeling B) Looking forward to seeing some right belters higher up in the chart B)
