December 5, 200618 yr Okay if it's your first sort of introduction to The Smiths, then you should probably go for the "Singles" compilation album, all their singles in one handy little CD.... OR "Smiths Best Of 1 and 2".... For actual original album of theirs you cant go wrong with either "The Queen Is Dead" or "Meat is Murder"....
December 5, 200618 yr I totally agree - you cannot go wrong with The Smiths "The Singles" compilation http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/4509990902.JPG Of their studio albums 1986's "The Queen Is Dead" is their greatest achievement. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/4509918962.JPG
December 5, 200618 yr I'd avoid the Singles compilations - the one to go for is Louder Than Bombs, a far better double album compilation of superb singles and b-sides - it's a much better buy than the EMI singles re-hash comps, and it includes much better stuff, some top notch b-sides as well as the singles. Also, The World Won't Listen is a fantastic compilation with gorgeous artwork. For a proper Smiths album - you can't go wrong with any of them to be honest, but The Queen Is Dead is a must-have for anyone's collection, really.....
December 6, 200618 yr I don't think it matters which one you choose, infact, buy more than one, their so cheap from HMV! [£5] I don't dislike any Smiths song Edited December 6, 200618 yr by This Charming Man
December 6, 200618 yr Author Thanks for all the suggestions! Think I’ll start with ‘The Queen Is Dead’ & I’ll also have a look out to see what else is there whilst I’m at it. :)
January 17, 200718 yr Mine has got to be 'Louder Than Bombs' and 'Hatful Of Hollow' Because of the different versions of songs :)
January 17, 200718 yr The Queen Is Dead - The only one I have, this forum is inspiring me to buy more of them and nick them off one of my brothers to have another listen as there are a lot of songs I know I like that I've forgotten what they sound like if you know what I mean.
January 19, 200718 yr I think it really depends on what kind of music you are into and what you are looking for. "The Queen is Dead" is a classic, and probably their best album, but if you are more into rock you should buy their debut album "The Smiths", finally, if you want to hear good singles then I would say "Hatful of Hollow" or "Singles".
