I like Delicate, but it's probably not even in my Top 40-50 Taylor songs so I'm shocked it's as high as #4!

3. Cruel Summer [Avg. 9.87]

The song that is taking the bronze medal in our rate is a song that I am surprised made it this far, but it is a good song! It's another missed opportunity for a single. Coming from Lover, it's one of the standout tracks. Cruel Summer combines synth-pop, industrial pop, and electropop styles. It incorporates synthesizers and distorted vocals manipulated by robotic voice effects in its production. Lyrically, it describes Taylor's intense and painful experience when she falls for a summer romance. It received four 11s (DionTheSats123, Doug, jtkoon, Nina West), ten 10s (Blacksquare, Cremey, Jade, Jay, Klumzee, London, me, MrAndrewMan, Tafty, Ultra). Lowest score is a 6.5 (Dexton).

I was surprised this reached as highly as number 3 as well. When Lover came out, originally Lover was my favourite song but over the last year or so, Cruel Summer has been a highlight. I think you were polite by saying this was missed single opportunity. You could also say: ‘how the f**k was Me! chosen over this??!!’

And so, the marathon ultimate rate is nearly to an end.

 

Two songs are left.

 

Wildest Dreams - it seems only fitting that a song from arguably her most popular album is in the final two. This song is and always has been a fan favourite. It’s not a surprise it’s ended top 2.

Willow ending top 2 is more of a surprise, mainly because of how new this song was when people did the rate. It has taken out many classics (like BS). It is from her latest studio album and it was clearly an immediate hit for many fans, as is demonstrated in its top 2 placing.

 

Wildest dreams peaked at #40 in 2015 while Willow peaked at #3 in 2020.

And so in runner up position, we have Willow. When Evermore was released last December, I had Covid. I was super sick but the surprise release was like a gift from god. I literally lay in my bed and listened to Evermore on repeat and Willow was instantly my favourite track. I listened to it over a hundred times I think in a week. Although I think I probably prefer Folklore overall than I do Evermore, Willow is my favourite song from both albums. It’s an absolutely stunning track with the most beautiful imagery. I think it’s so deserving of its number 2 placing and I’m glad it is so well loved already by Taylor fans. Willow peaked at number 3 in the U.K. chart and stayed in the chart for 14 weeks, which was and still is the longest a single has stayed in the chart since ‘You need to clam down’ which charted for 15 weeks. Willow was given five 11s from me, Ready For It, John-James, Cremey, Among Haus and nine 10s from Ultra, Nina West, Mr Andrew Man, Klumzee, Jktoon, Jay, Jade, Doug & BlackSquare. It also scored a 9.5, two 9s, an 8 and a lowest score of 7.5.

Here we are, the song that is taking the gold medal! It's a popular song on here and very deserving! The fifth single from 1989, Wildest Dreams! Wildest Dreams is a synth-pop and dream pop power ballad with an atmospheric production equipped with string instruments and Taylor's real heartbeat as its beat. The lyrics describe Taylor's plea for her lover to remember her despite the inevitable end of their relationship. The re-recording was released on my birthday (September 17, 2021). It received ten 11s! (Among Haus, Doug, Jade, Jay, John-James, JosephStyles, MrAndrewMan, Nina West, me, Riser) It also received seven 10s! (DionTheSats123, Ho-Lee Smokes, jtkoon, Klumzee, London, Qween, Ultra) The lowest score is a 5 (Dexton). The other scores are a 9 and two 8s. Incredible showing.
