Take That likely to remain top of both charts

Music Week

Take That look almost certain to remain atop the single and album charts next week, in the wake of last weekend’s prime-time An Audience With Take That TV broadcast.

The show, which pulled in 5.6m viewers on Saturday night, has sparked an upsurge in Take That material – single Patience is outperforming the market by 8%, while album Beautiful World is experiencing a 5% week-on-week sales increase and is comfortably heading the album chart.

Additionally, Never Forget – The Ultimate Collection (RCA) is on course for a return to the top 30 after a sales increase of 391% since last week, and downloads of their 1996 single Back For Good have propelled their 1996 single to within striking distance of the Top 40.

Elsewhere in the album chart, the Top 10 remains largely unchanged, with Westlife, Oasis, Il Divo and U2 making up the remainder of the top five behind Take That. Albums from Sugababes, Pink, James Morrison and The Fratellis are all making significant sales increases, while Gwen Stefani’s The Sweet Escape (Interscope) is the highest likely new entry just outside the Top 20.

Other new entries come from Andrea Bocelli (Sugar/UCJ), Mary J Blige (Geffen), Lil’ Chris (RCA) and Emma Bunton (19), with Babyshambles’ The Blinding EP, ineligible for the singles chart due to the amount of tracks included, currently at number 53.

Below Take That in the singles chart, Booty Luv are poised to rise to number two, with possible Top 10 entries from Morrissey (Attack/Sanctuary) and Lazy Town (GTV). Singles from Thunder (STC), Gwen Stefani (Interscope), Embrace (Independiente) and P Diddy feat. Christina Aguilera (Atlantic) are also on course for a Top 40 debut, with high risers coming from Jamelia (Parlophone), Scissor Sisters (Polydor) and Slade’s Merry Xmas Everybody (UMTV).

Kids' TV to hit top the charts

Virgin Net

An infectious novelty song from kids' TV show LazyTown could be set to win the race for Christmas number one.

According to latest mid-week sales figures, 'Bing Bang (Time To Dance)' is on course to top the charts on Sunday, having overtaken Take That and is currently outselling the current number one single 'Patience'.

And if it maintains its current sales rate it will have a chance of being crowned this year's Christmas number one on December 24.

'Bing Bang (Time To Dance)' is thought to be popular among young children in the run-up to Christmas, but the song - and accompanying dance routine - also has a cult following among students

LazyTown is an Icelandic TV show, which encourages children to go outside and be active, instead of staying inside and playing video games all day.

Characters in the show include pink-haired Stephanie and sporty hero Sportacus as well as Ziggy, Trixie, Stingy, and Pixel.

Songs by childrens TV character have a history of topping the charts at Christmas. In 2000, Bob The Builder beat Eminem to the Christmas top spot, while Take That were beaten by Mr Blobby in 1993.

However, the X-Factor winner, Matt Willis, Girls Aloud, All Angels and Cliff Richard will all be hoping to beat LazyTown to the top on December 24.

I just don't believe that Bing Bang will be Number 1. I hope that it will be a hoax! Please!!!!!

One of the reasons that I took a 7 year hiatus in listening to chart music was that songs from bands like The Cartoons were such hits.

In my opnion, 2006 been an excellent year for music. I hope that Take That have a third week at No. 1!

They look like Wednesday's updates, Gwen Stefani has moved up inside the top 10, but Chris Cornell is missing from the Top 10, he would be in the top 10, as he is #2 on downloads only.

Somehow I don't think Chris Cornell is going to qualify.

I'm not sure if it's been put back or something that makes it illegible.

Cascada are actually doing fairly well with their Savage Garden mauling...could scrape top 10 if they are very lucky :-0

HMV

According to HMV its out next Monday, his downloads position only @ No.2, should make him a Top 10 entry this week.

Just a thought... when Virgin says Lazytown has OVERTAKEN take that, it probably doesn't mean in terms of total sales, but on Tuesday's and Wednesday's sales alone. I find it very difficult to believe Lazytown are ahead even if some of the download data was missing from Tuesday's mids. I suppose we're just gonna have to wait and see...
